I think I figured out why I can't see the pictures.... I'm running iOS on an iPad, but you've setup redirection for mobile based browsers. Would be nice if there was a link to the non-mobile site too.

I wanna see the pretty pictures! :x

:D

There should be no redirect, the images he posted are direct directory URL's. I can see them in Android on Honeycomb, Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich OS's. Can you click these and see em?

is the extended draft gear (NICE!!!) going to be available separately to update other cars? Think you might have made mention of this on the Modutrak forum some time ago.

Hi Brian,

Do we have a price on these new wagons yet .  Looking at the latest MTL release it would have matched the other two I have. So what you are saying is that the foibies are on the move.

This looks like the same boxcar, but minus one rib one each side of the door:

The first models from the production run of X58 boxcars arrived today for final approval.  Here is a quick photo tease of the second Pennsy car, an X58C with Keystone cushioned underframe.  Click the photos for bigger pics.

I believe people will be pleased in particular with the fineness of the etchings and roofwalk end supports, along with the innovative thin-profile draft gear -

Bryan,

The car looks great- I'm sure it will be a winner for you!
One question, since it's hard to tell from the pic - how is the coupler box secured to the draft gear?

$32.95 MSRP.  That hasn't changed.

This looks like the same boxcar, but minus one rib one each side of the door:
RBL  Box, CUF, PD, LD, SF  6900 - 6999  50'2"  9'4"  10'  55'2"  10'6"  15'1"  10'6"  10'  4711  133  99

The prototype has riveted sides, Stanray triangular panel roof and straight side sills.  It is not a PS-1 car.  The only commonality between the MTL model and the prototype is the length and width of the car, and maybe the height.

One question, since it's hard to tell from the pic - how is the coupler box secured to the draft gear?

As with the G26 and XIH, the coupler box is integrated into the floor/underframe.  The sides and top of the X58 draft gear are painted to match the body color.

The brass coupler box plate screws into the floor underneath the outer axle with a #00-90 panhead phillips screw that was engineered specifically for the model.  It's larger than the flathead metric micro-screws currently being used to secure body-mounted coupler boxes and has a wider head than standard #00-90 screws, so it's less likely to "disappear" if it is dropped.  But if it is lost inadvertently, you can use a standard #00-90 round-head screw with the threads cut down to secure the coupler plate and the head still will clear the outer axle.

I think Chris was comparing his photo to your X58, not talking about the MTL foob.   ;)

But the rib count will cause problems trying to lay out all that P&LE lettering!

Ah.  I just took a look.  That's the same prototype as the green LV that I wish I could do.

Yeah, we'll have to put that prototype on the short list, if there are enough roads to do.  Only a new body would have to be tooled.  All the other components, plastic and metal, can be taken from the X58.

In the interim though, Chris can easily kitbash the model.  Remove the sides from the ESM car, salvage the doors; etch new sides with the rib flanges and a cutout for the doors; laminate the etched sides to styrene sheet; form new styrene ribs; insert the doors; cut the styrene backing to match the perimeter of the etchings; add the new sides to the body; add new styrene lower door tracks and supports.

The green LV car you are talking about I beleive was built by the Penn Central.  The cars were class X65 on the PC.  The PC cars retained that class on Conrail, but the LV cars would have been reclassed BL55B if I remember correctly.  The X65's were built by the PC Despatch Shops (NYC) and not Sam Rea (PRR).  I imagine the LV cars were tacked onto the PC order.  The cars lasted to the Conrail split.  I for one would welcome this car just like the X58.  It would be another great car for interchange service with the midwestern and western modelers.  Thanks.
