PRR D78c Dining Car Help

Hey guys,

Working up a list of contenders for the proposed Diner and am up to the "P"'s  :o)  I have the article by J. Geissel with drawings of the car, but would like more info.  Anyone have any articles with more photo's...info on the trucks as they would have to be new as well.

Thanks

Joe

Pennsylvania Dining Cars by Liljesterand and Sweetland has a ton of info on PRR diners.  Also try this:

There's always Robert Schoenberg's PRR equipment diagrams:

http://prr.railfan.net/diagrams/PRRdiagrams.html?diag=d78cr.gif&sel=din&sz=sm&fr=GS

According to Jerry Britton's site, the trucks are 3D7P2, same as the trucks on the BM70M that comes with Kato's broadway.

Any thought of doing the D70a?

It's also an 80 foot PRR diner that ran on the same 3-axel 3D7P2 trucks.  Either way, thanks for including the SPF's on the short list!

I've got a modernized D78 done with Union Station sides but I sure could use at least 3 more.

Her's the one with Union Station Sides.  I did place MT trucks on this car which is not correct and it needs some lowering.

Hi Joe,

PM Sent,

Bob that is a nice piece. Have a look at this site from the Atlas Forum which may help you find the correct trucks.

Al, here's another one done with sides, a D82cR which really needs some 2D-P8 trucks to look good.

I think it would be awesome if your diner were a PRR prototype!  Would complete my PRR HW collection.

Joe, you can see 5 of your HWs in this video if you haven't seen it.  The brass PRR K4s is meant to be the star of the show, but it's nothing without the Tuscan varnish behind.  No shelf-queens in my world.

The other 3 cars include a Micro Trains X29 REA box, a Hell Gate Models B60b baggage car (this was a resin kit) and a Kato BM70M RPO.

For what it's worth, I wish the RPO had been a 70' PRR-like prototype, and I kind of wish the Villa Royal had been given a proper name for its series, but honestly I'm just so pleased with the detail and the paint job as well as how well they run I'm just stoked at the though of more Pennsy heavyweights from you guys.

Dave, I've got a brass D70-bR from an old 1938 Broadway set which I don't need.  Ask and you shall receive.

Bob, that's a mighty fine offer, but I wonder if you shouldn't try to get some coin on eBay for it from someone without the insight into Joe's plans that we have!

NO.

Here's the obs from the 1938 Broadway.  Also used on the Liberty Limited after the Broadway was modernized after the war.  I know that Washington view was one but don't remember the name of the other car.

Thinking about selling the diner, obs and the lounge car.  If I do I'll post them for sale here first.

Bob, what paint brand and color is that?

That set came painted that way.  Also came with the older pre-war FOM decals which I sold years ago.

Hi Bob,

Those models are great. I would love to see Joes plans come to fruition but if they do not I have my own plans for a couple of cutup and bashes to go my own way just in case.

Hi Dave

That video still has the desired effect to make things happen. I hope Joe gets a big kick out of it to ensure we get the desired result.
