Annual Cherry Valley new photos post.

As it's been some time since the last, here's an update of the work that's been done so far this year.

Here's what the main station area looked like, before:

Eventually a second platform got added, but it basically spent a few years being used as an area to park trains:

First up was working out the arrangement for placing the poles and arched supports:

An 89' boxcar was used to help establish maximum clearances:

The columns on the platforms are old Wilton wedding-cake columns:

Then, the framing to support the street-level above the tracks was built up out of 1"x2" pine:

After that came the installation of the HO code 100 rail for overhead within the station:

I have also added 1/2"x3/4" strips to serve as supports for the cold-cathode fluorescent platform lighting:

Then I started on building up the span poles for the yard throat, as well as installing some of the actual catenary:

Now let's see how much more wire I can get strung in the next month, before we stop work for the holidays.

Drew, that's absolutely fantastic work! What are you using for the catenary poles themselves?

Phil, the H-column poles are all K&S/Special Shapes H6 (3/16") and H7 (1/4") brass stock, purchased new secondhand. K&S no longer stocks these sizes, and the minimum order is 35 pieces to get more custom run for us. I still have 19 each of the H7, and 6 each of the H6, all 36" long. The round poles are vintage ARCOA #22 beryllium brass welding rod.

Gary, the eventual plan for the station is for a compressed artistic-license version of 30th street. It won't have the surburban upper-level tracks; and there will be a streetcar loop around it. Regardless, anyone familiar with downtown Philly should recognize it.

Thanks guys!

Russ, wait'll you see the PRR PL-5 Pedestal-style dwarf signals I'm working on. They should really help the scene pop.

Finally got all the wirework done out the north end of 30th St.

Already have another 14 poles built along the mainline, just within the last two months. Progress!

With all the overhead wires, I count you one of us European railroaders.
This looks very nice and more work than I can imagined.
