Corralling wires with Plastic Canvas

I've been working on control panels for my bridge module and for my new Kankakee Station module:

One issue I had was controlling the position of the wires as they came off the panels, especially since the panels will fold under the modules for transport. My first thought was to put a barrier strip at the edge of the panel, and terminate the leads there. However, for the station module, a barrier strip with enough contacts would be longer than the panel!

The solution turned out to be several #6x1/2" screws, and a strip of "plastic canvas":

This is plastic canvas: http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/plastic-canvas-7-count-773515/ . (The link is to Hobby Lobby; I bought mine at Michael's, but their website is less than helpful.)

It has 7 holes per inch; I used a three-square-wide strip, and put screws in every third hole to form the "pockets" to hold the wire. At that rate, a single sheet of the plastic canvas just may be a lifetime supply. :)

This technique could be useful just about anywhere you need to secure a bunch of wires on the cheap.

Has
me considering using some leftover plastic roll fencing under my holiday layout.  Keeping hounds and children out of the wiring underneath seems a good idea...
