1950s Wooden Highway Guardrails

Anyone have any pictures (and modeling hints) for the wooden guardrails used along NJ highways in the 1950s?
I seem to remember square wooden posts, painted white with 2 or 3 attached cables strung between them.

Here's a topical thread from O Gauge Railroading:

Hope that helps,

I don't know what NJ used, but here's some pics I took a few minutes ago (here in MD):

Over the years I remember seeing wood and concrete posts, but more often wood posts.

Also used were steel I- or H-beams.

Here's a good reference photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cbustapeck/1355487958/

We still use them up here, but the wood is left "natural" 'soted. 8' posts are sunk 5' in the ground and 2-3 cables are strung between them and attached with "U" staples.
I WANNA SEE THE BOAT MOVIE!

Yes... I'm in N... Also HO and 1:1

I used .30 styrene for the posts, but a 2x6(ish) for the rail.  I thought about stringing the wires, but then I thought about how lazy and easily satisfied I am. :ashat:

I modeled the steel post variety in N scale by bonding ship railing stanchions to pieces of Evergreen I-beam.

For Z scale, I just used the ship railing stanchions.

Would you believe?  Went back to Westville, NJ to take some pictures along the tracks.
I thought when they put up the modern, shiny, new, metal highway guardrails that they had removed the old ones.
But the old ones were still there, about 5' over in heavy underbrush:
