Sucky week. Dad died last night.

Daniel,

I'm saddened to read that your father passed. I lost my father in 1986, and my mother in 2000.
I will be praying for you and your family (and will add you to our prayer list in our study group tomorrow) during this time of loss.

My condolences, Daniel.

This week I assembled a 12" long test section of straight track with Code 40 rail.  I will use it to test painting and weathering techniques:

Here is the test section sitting on the right of way at Tremblay:

I am currently assembling the mainline and siding trackage which will connect the two turnouts at Tremblay.

Daniel, sorry to hear that, my condolences.

I did start to build a transfer car for the steel mill on a friends layout...

Steve , that is some contraption . That fan , suck or blow ? That's a lot of air for one person in a little box . Where is the other end of the air flow ?

Richie this is the 'motor end' of the transfer car, there will be louvres on the front on all three panels I am only waiting on the Archer louvres decals.

Sorry to hear of your loss Dan. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.

No modeling for me this week, but here is a shot of some work in progress attempting to make the Deluxe roadrailer body look less like a roadrailer and more like an intermodal trailer. Looks like one of the bumper supports and a door lock rod aren't that square and I still have to attach the outside "horns" from the body to the bumper.

Ultimately, I have a fleet of these to do and scratch building them individually is a pain and time consuming. I think I'll have a Shapeways experiment too.....

Progress on two fronts.  I relaid the 4% hidden grade as a 2% grade and double tracked it to provide some staging and yard options.  I'm much happier with the broader radii the grade, and the track is not even down.

The wetland scene is progressing.  I've eschewed a static grass applicator as too blunt and gone with a pinch and dab approach, together with use of torn grass mats to get larger cover.  I roll up loose static grass between my fingers and dab it lightly into Aleen's extra thick glue.  It gives lots of control over color and nice irregular coverage, which is more natural to my eye.  The scene is slowly coming together, but here are some progress shots.

I did a few vertical air photos for kicks.  Amazing how few trees appear in the lake scene from this perspective.

Sorry for the poor photo quality, the tripod is on it's way somewhere else...  :D

Cheers

Pulling out the CR 55 dome to run in Lee's office car excursion last weekend was a nudge to resume work on the rest of the OCS.  Worked today on the floor for the CR 12 conference car to fit it between the lowered steps, and laminated Athabasca Shops etched sides to a milled down Rapido fixed-step duplex sleeper on the CR 9 theater car.  I abandoned the similarly constructed CR 11 sleeper (Athabasca sides and a milled Walthers sleeper) since Rapido has announced the prototypically-correct 10-5 model needed.

I didn't get as much done as I had been hoping this weekend because it turned out that translating the west ladder of the upper staging yard:

to plywood was a bit tricky.  It took awhile, but I finally got it down and got the plywood cut.

After that nonsense, getting a few 5" strips for the main body of the yard was a cinch.  I put one up and clamped it to the end of the throat.  Then I threw down a few pieces of track to get an idea of what the area will eventually look like.  I also included a piece of scrap plywood and track showing where the closest platform track will be.  I tweaked that measurement to be sure that there's enough space there to reach up and retrieve a wayward car.

Next job is to build the risers that will sit above the channel steel.  I decided to make the base for the west ladder first so that I could just mark off where to cut the supporting grooves without having to measure around the curve.  I think it's going to be a good decision, because it's giving me a much better idea of where to put the risers (like not right under a turnout).
