I haven't decided which one I will do ..

88 was the only UP 4-6-2 with the bell on the front of the smoke box .

Started bashing a MTL BX truck into submission ..

97 had a different size sand box than the last one I did , and an extra box under the tender

Finished up a couple of projects this week. First up is RPO Carl F. Rank. It was the only named RPO on the Milwaukee Road. Mr Rank was once the Manager of Milwaukee's Baggage, Mail and Express traffic. He was known as a national authority in the postal and express field.

Next is another CB&Q Havelock car, this one in green paint. Hopefully I'll have a shadow lined car to show next week!

This week I ran out of track for the loop on the staging level.  More has been acquired, and will be installed shortly.

In a bizarre confluence of the space-time continuum, I found myself hosting three traveling cars at once.  NSNX2010 and NSNX2011 from NScale.net, and TBX3401 from Trainboard.

The meeting seems to have cause some kind of rupture that was not without its consequences.

Not a lot done this week, but more than I expected.  I got the rough ground cover in on about 12' of the second deck.

Next week I hope to finish the rough ground cover (about another 8'), begin some detailed ground cover and start the detailed backdrop painting along the layout-to-backdrop interface.

Really looking good Mark.

Got to try out my new Southern Pacific S-40-8 Stock Car today. Just have to put the trucks on to finish up. I hope to also finish building the N-9A transfer this weekend too.

I've been at Southeast Linux Fest all weekend learning stuff and helping out with the Fedora booth.  Thursday night the alcohol did not flow freely, but what did flow was free courtesy of Red Hat.  Friday night and last night the alcohol flowed freely, courtesy of OpenSource.com and Rackspace, respectively.

In deference to Mark Dance's massive scenery effort, I managed about 18" of new real estate on the WMRY Western Lines.

More trees, details and other debris will be forthcoming once I get some more glue...

Lee,

I cannot believe that you didn't correct that short s-curve or kink coming off the passing siding that you said was giving you fits with longer cars.  A right-hand turnout would have fixed this.  I know you like to be thrifty, but that's too extreme in this situation, when the fix would have cost approximately $10.00.  Now, we will have to be sure to divert those long cars on the main track only through this area.  That's a big PITA to remember for those who don't operate the layout every day.

Actually, Dave, I was able to straighten out the kink adequately to minimize the effect before I ballasted.  What had happened was the track coming off the bridge had shifted, causing the turnout to actually develop a curve.  Once I put that straight, it solved the derailment problem.  The left hand track in the picture would be the outbound track in the siding, so trains will be approaching that at a reduced speed anyway, and a right hand track would have made the inbound track more kinky, probably creating problems.

But thanks for your attention to these details!
