A look at the new MT Hopper (with BLMA trucks)

The new hopper from MT is great.  I'm happy that MT is body mounting, and hopefully this trend continues with new releases (or better yet, updates to old releases).  Make sure you support them if you agree ;)  Their last new style (the caboose) also had body mounts.

One thing the car could use is BLMA 100 ton trucks, which need to be raised by using the little washer that comes with MT truck bulk packs.

So two firsts for me:  raising ride height and using the MT washer!

I doubt if you actually raised the car ;), since the bolster on the BLMA truck is lower than on all other trucks that I know of.

How about a topside view of the car?

Q: did MTL ship these with 36" wheels on their 70T RB truck? ???

Tom,

Did the laser-cut wood product actually come out OK, or should I start etching the stainless?

You can tell by the gap between the wheel and the underside of the car that you didn't actually raise the height; the car still sits a fair bit lower than it was, even with the shim in there.

Looks like MTL put 36" wheels on their 70 ton truck frame - can anyone confirm or deny this? ???

That is one great looking car and will rival any brand.

IMHO with those BLMA trucks it will rival most HO cars. :o

It actually came out pretty darn good. Not quite as thin and fines as the etched one EXR put on the 4427 low-side but not anywhere near as clunky as the Red Caboose 4740's and Atlas Tharll 4750's. Don;t have access to a camera today or I would post a comparison.

The roofwalk is not as nice as the TrainCat 4750 stainless replacements, but much better than the thin wavy roofwalks you see from time to time.

Looks like April's release for this is IMCX ...

I will definately support this when MTL does a scheme era appropriate for me. 8)

I just hope I don't have to wait as long as I've waited for the 'right" scheme on the 3 dome tank (still waiting!). ;)

Mark

Is it just me or does the photo of the IMCX car look like it has two different truck styles on it?
