Could you get better shots of the actual mechanism/running gear?

<waiting for the inevitable discussion over whatever probably isn't up to snuff in certain circles> :D

This looks like it will be one of the easiest sound installs to do based on those initial break-down photos.

LOL - I'm on enough meds right now for this nasty swine flu crap that I'm not sure what I was trying to say.

I suppose some people might FAP over certain subjects though - at least the way some people act, you might think so. :P

Ok, time for me to go back to bed...

I must apologize on two points.  #1 - In an earlier post I meant to type I'm NOT a Milwaukee Road expert.  After re-reading that post it comes across very wrong.  I have sent out an email to a friend that is involved with the Milwaukee Road Historical Society to see if they have any recordings or know of any of the 4-4-2 in service to hear the airhorn.  #2 - I don't have any better photos of the running gear on the Hiawatha.  All of the photos I took revolved around the tender and the ability to install a DCC Decoder.

I might have some possible reference to a Milwaukee Road airhorn.  On my YouTube page I have a video entitled 3 Whistles of Milw #261.  I don't know if this would be same kind of horn used on the Atlantics.  To watch and listen here is the link -  http://www.youtube.com/user/kschmidt626#p/u/22/dI3xU5LXeoE

Anybody that is at all remotely interested in Milwaukee Passenger Trains should buy Volume 1 and 2 of Milwaukee Road Passenger Passenger Tains by John Strauss Jr,Four Ways West Publishing. More volumes to follow, but the areas discussed here are covered. Details on the first trian in Volume 1,yes the cars did have air under them, pleanty of photos ,the North Woods Service is covered in Volume 2 along with such interesting trains as "The Fisherman".but I degress, the shrowded North Woods locos had high drivers like the Class A Atlantics, some work would be involved to fit large drivers on existing 4-6-0 locos. My Chuck Pack should be coming shortly with my HI and add on cars,I really love Sky Top's tender decal add on. Nate Goodman (Nato).

Got all of the Hiawatha's owned by the members of the Milwaukee-N-Southeastern N scale club in Milwaukee.  A club that Matt from FVM was a member of years ago and helped with the design of the layout.  Here's a salute to Matt and his Hiawatha's   I know that there were only 4 of them but we have 6.  So here's to the N Scale Hiawatha

I fixed the rear coupler, for now.

It is a complete 905 coupler sandwiched inside a 1016 coupler box. It required notching the back of the 905 to clear the mounting screw and trimming some of the post inside the coupler box.

The one thing nobody has noted about this set is the fact that it has kinematic couplers on all the cars. Even the tail of the observation has one on it which is pretty impressive considering the back porch on the car.

Mine is running around the test loop right now with a SDN144 decoder in it. I used a 14x18 oval speaker in the tender and created a custom sound file. I still need to tweak it for the seprate horn and whistle but it sounds pretty good for now.

I recieved my set today and unfortunately one cab grab had come off either side.  I found the first one right away, the second had found it's way to the underside of the loco.  I haven't tried to to put them back in, but it doesn't look like it's going to be too easy as the parts of the wire that go into the cab are very short.

Hopefully an isolated incident, but it you weren't planning on running the locomotive anytime soon, you may want to check it now anyway.

edit: Okay, the grabs weren't that hard to get back in because the holes they go into are huge (relatively speaking).  So much so, I had to up the blob of glue I used to secure them.  I can certainly see some how some could fall out if not enough glue was applied.  I'm hoping what I used will be sufficient.
