I too am really hopeing for a coach or two soon. Single or paired window. I could use 1 Observation, but I could use a dozen or more coaches.

I know CP didnt run this particular car, but it will look fine in Tuscan and Dulux Gold......

David B

Well; not the 3-2 but it will serve as a base for a number of CPR cars; like a buffet parlor car I have been thinking of......

"Could make a fun freelance conversion to a private owned car , or a supervisor track inspection car for a freelance railroad ."

You could.  The most famous, I believe, would be the Virginia City which was owned by Lucius Beebe and Charles Clegg, though several still survive in their original configuration.  The neat thing about the VC is that you can even paint it up with Amtrak stripes and it would be prototypical...

O.K., I'll buy one.  Now when the coaches come, I'll buy 10 single window and 10 paired window.

The CPR Buffet parlor cars would be a bash from this, although window and roof work would be required.

These ran on many eastern trains and some western.... balloon roof will be a bit of a prig...

Maybe this as well.........

Early steel side observation cars that did not get enclosed into the Cape series solariums; some were used as is and then went into work service.....

I am looking for diners!!!!

Diner's are a crap shoot to me; diners may be the most individualistic passenger cars around; it often seems that no two are alike. I'd be curious is there was a predominant dining car design that multiple roads had....Jerry; any guidance here ?

I'm surprised no one has commented on the coupling distance between these cars.  I measured it at .250 inches which scales out to 40" and that is about 2 feet more than proto for passenger cars.  What I find confusing is that we fuss and fume about a couple of inches of car ride height but make no mention of a couple of extra feet in coupling distances.  The latter is far more noticeable.

It was mentioned back when the 10-1-2 was released.  They designed the car to run on smaller radii track.  Just drill a new 00-90 hole further back and re-mount the 1015.  Adjust accordingly if you have added ALM diaphragms.

Yes, it's far more noticeable than ride height, but it's much easier to fix.  If ride height was as easy to correct, there would be less fussing about it.

I fix that at the same time that I body-mount the couplers.  I know many are concerned that body-mounts cause problems on sharper curves, but I have found that this isn't as much of a problem when the cars are approximately the same length, as many passenger cars are.  However, I once tested an IM 2-bay hopper and an MT autorack with body-mounts on tracks as sharp as 12" radii and had no problems.

As for the observation car, I look forward to using one for a business car.  Hopefully, a paint scheme will be released that I can make use of.  For example, I always wanted one of these (and I would accept a foobie):

These are not completely implausible on an A&R or an RF&P layout (I'd even accept SCL paint!):

Coupling distance is a big beef for me. From Atlas Accumate trucks on up to Kato SD40-2s and everywhere in-between. ;)

Fortunately for the MTL HWs, as Bryan B points out, the fix is pretty easy.

I'm glad to see that MT made their cars so that they could be run by the average joe yet are easy to modify if you want to close em up. Good engineering. Now if someone could explain the couplers on the new Kato SD 45's..... SD meaning "Spacing Disaster"...you could park a semi in between two of their units.....
