I was surprised at how much the camera moved in between shots. Next time I try a time lapse, I won't take the memory card out except at the end. I took out the card several times on this movie and the camera movement was not obvious at the time, but annoying in the video.

You might want to look for time lapse software. Hook up the camera to a laptop and it runs itself.

I've thought about it several times, but never pulled the trigger. I'm afraid if I get the software, the next thing I know that is all I'd be doing. Good bye layout.

I know just what you mean. There have been some extraordinary timelapse videos posted recently, many of which were taken with a DSLR and a laptop...

The one that David posted of the rail relaying a few weeks ago is the best I've seen.

I would like to get into time-lapse photography (in addition to regular photography) as well.

I would get more into stop motion than time lapse. In high school I did a clay animation project for an English class. My class partner and I wrote a script and shot it in stop action movie using 8mm film. It was called, "The meek shall inherit." I don't remember the plot very well except that one of the characters falls in a well.  It was pretty cool, even though we did no post processing other than cutting a splicing.  I always wanted to try that again with some of the new software out there.

Stop motion would be another time-sucking monster for me. Starting in high school and all through college, I must have done about a dozen stop motion films. The most ambitious of them was when I animated the contents of a large office building. It was on campus at college, and I shot it after business hours. It took all night, but it was worth it--everything in the office moved in sync with a music soundtrack. Coincidentally the title of the film was "After Hours." Wish I still had all those 8mm films, but they're long gone.

Recently I decided to give stop motion a try using a DSLR and some image stacking software that takes individual frames and assembles them into video.
