How long will it be before they show us how to add DCC to a tree?

The one we have is gorgeous... are you worried about the mechanism?

He's right. The Arnold S2 is still a venerable piece of equipment. There is a remotor kit available, as well as metal gears and low profile wheelsets. Its pretty easy to put DCC into it too. The only drawback is the crappy pickups.

Got 2 of those and the replacement wheels and gears.  Just never got a round to redoing it.  Not a bad looking loco for its age.  Do agree that a new retooled model would go over big in N.

Yes, it really is.  The hood casting is beautiful.  Good cab, good handrails.

Not without a lot of work.  The shell is all metal, and as I recall, just big enough inside to fit around the mechanism.

Mark Starmanns: http://www.n-stars.com/ for the motor.

NWSL was making the wheelsets and I know someone was making gears for them, I thought it was NWSL but looking at other posts appears to be someone else.

This might help: http://www.pmrr.org/Articles/Equipment/S2.htm

I think I saw the Arnold S-2 in a store once. Once.

Are these obtainable?

Although I have no use for this (or any other switcher for that matter) this would seem like a "no brainer" "home run" for someone to do a new Also S-2 from the ground up.

Wouldn't that be easier than hunting around for a patchwork solution?

That said, if I was in the hunt for the S-2, I'd be hunting down the Arnold version. :P

I've got a PRR one with the verhy lousy DGLE which is way to green and a B&O which is fairly decent.  Got replacement gear for one only.  I may just decice to sell one but don't know which one yet.
