I picked up the latest version of Bachpersonn's eight wheeler, painted in B&O Royal Blue.   This is the first plastic box version of this locomotive that I have.   I am impressed, there have been some marked improvements.   The cars are the Athearn thirty four foot passenger cars.

Thanks to John for the roundy-round ops session.  It was a lot of fun, and I appreciate the opportunity to have met a few of the Railwire folks in person.

I'm too busy today to upload most of my photos from the past week, but there's some content coming in the near future.  In the meantime, I have a question, although not exactly n-scale.  Does this HO scale Athearn model usually come with the gray band below the clear plastic?

I got a chance to tour the Juniata Shops on Thursday, and it was incredible.

And just in case you thought decals in N scale were tough, occasionally the 1-to-1 crowd has the same trouble.

I also swung by the NS PD office, and they had a collection of patches on the wall from the agency's history.  I may have snagged a couple.   :)

The good news is that the new apartment is settled, and I'll be moving in next month.  Once I get situated, I'll be building my first layout in almost three years.

The bad news is that I dropped my camera while just after getting a shot of a Milwaukee Road covered hopper, although I did get the shot.

I looked at some Blair Line traffic signs and noticed the diamond warning signs are 4 feet wide. That's great for freeways, but not surface roads (or anything prior to the mid 90's). I spent the last two days copying and resizing the signs to n scale. This is the result. I printed the the page on glossy photo paper and the results were VERY good. If anyone is interested in the word document, send me an email at daniel_leavitt2004@yahoo.com

The file is about 10 megs, and you will need a fairly fast computer, 4+ gigs of ram and a high end photo printer.

During the week I replaced transfer case seals on the GPW...standing leak test over night and it passed. The next day I took her down the road to a Classic Car Cruise-In, and found a tiny leak... ::) gotta replace the seal this week... >:( Otherwise I had a 4 day weekend and did a lot of catching up on errands and todo stuff. Picked up a DT402D at Kleins. Had a blast at Johns. Ran to Kleins...again (my order was wrong...), grabbed a UR92 panel (instead of next week...I was there and had to grab something ya know!). Finally got my Challenger programed who knew 14 step speed control blew out functions? Saturday I spent some time assisting a friend with their layout. Lastly I started reading Tony Koesters new book, total railfanning material for the AM! Looks like I may have to expand the connecting power fleet!

Sadly, I finished my last batch of cars and engines for the next year.  I'm leaving for Saudi Arabia on the 11th and will be gone for just about a year.  :-X  I almost took all of my stuff, but I don't trust the customs folks over there and have heard some rather interesting stories of stuff vanishing into thin air.

Anyway, here's my final postings for awhile...

Someone now has a complete GN rainbow train.

Each of the cars has a separate sibling as well.  Not shown are a pair of MRL tankers and a pair of MRL 86' Boxcars.  Sharepoint has been giving me fits since I shipped the computer with Frontpage loaded on it.

That's it for me.

Brian

P.S. I'll still be on the boards, just not showing anything of interest...  ::)
I've never met a covered hopper I didn't like.... :)

Brian,

Thanks for sharing your work with us and thank you for your service to our country.  I hope the time passes quickly and we look forward to hearing from you and seeing your work again.

Best wishes, Dave

I've got to install about 3' worth of connections, and the Thomas sub is roughed in, ready for a test train.  But now I'm sleepy, and this is going to be a busy week at work...  I'm sure I'll find time to squeeze it in! ;D

Sleep?  What's that?

Got invited up to Milwaukee to operate on the Norfolk and Whey, Saturday evening.  A really good West Viriginia coal hauler built for ops.  Dispatcher has a JMRI built panel upstairs, and signals are sprouting up at the major points of the railroad.  Very cool, and a good group of guys.  If anyone is signed up for the tours at NMRA, and this one is on that tour, you'll be in for a treat.

Other than that, I got ground foam on the Oakwood module.  Now ballasting.  Which I detest.

Just some more working on the base scenery for me. Sorry for the crappy photos, I was a bit tired this afternoon and just took some grab shots.

Ian,

Great photos. I like the look of the Randy's Restaurant (?). Your last photo reminds me of this one I took last month in Rome...never knew that Conrail made it this far east!

Note the firefighters practicing their rappelling skills.

Best wishes, Dave
