Ah yes... Practicing the fine art of "How Not to Be Seen"...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...
I got hold of some ancient and venerable Northeast Decals, and tried my best not to mess them up.

I sprayed the decals with a thin coat of clear lacquer to keep them from crumbling from age. Aside from a minor slip of the pin stripe, I think it turned out well. I'm amazed at how sharp the Fireball herald is even after all these years.

The engine now has a number to go with the decoder address!

NIcely done!

y train work this weekend was spent mixing craft paints trying to achieve the right orange tinged brown color to simulate the earth under the scenery on my layout.  I have lots of pics and soil survey data to work from, but its slow going.

I've got a batch of decoders to install tomorrow, so I can get them in the mail Tuesday, too.  (That means you Henry!)

Have a great and safe Memorial Day...

No hurry, Lee. The job(s) are keeping nose to grindstone, shoulder to wheel, a** in sling, cliche, cliche......

Nice! A good call Eric!

I made more progress, finally getting one of the new doors up on its legs:

Which meant I could start fooling around with in-situ planning:

I spent Saturday and Sunday mulching and reballasting my Garden Railroad.

You guys are smart being able to do everything indoors in AC.  The outdoor railroad is however quite rewarding when your all done with the maintanence! I'll post pics when I get a chance to take em!

Heres some random CR G scale goodness in the meantime! CR 70MAC by USA Trains, gondolas are scratchbuilt.

I spent the weekend working on my only child in preparation for the Mid Atlantic Air Museum (the Reading Airshow):

Rewiring the old gal! My brother "(spawn of) Larry the Cable Guy" and my Dad "Pale Rider"

Puttin' her to sleep for the night!

We were only supposed to drop the transmission to replace bearings and determine where a leak was originating. In attempts to get the vehicle on the trailer, the solenoid stuck, spinning the starter till the battery drained and blowing a fuse under the dash. In trying to trouble shoot under the dash we made a unanimous decision to rewire in efforts to remove a rats nest. After that was completed we moved on to dropping the transmission and trying to find the infamous leak. Thank god it wasn't the rear main seal (it's a bear to replace). Turns out it's gear oil (from the trans), so we replaced the tranny seals and I need to get a rail cap for the 2nd/3rd gear.

yes John,

While the family room can still serve as a TV room for the children there is definitely no more running indiscriminate jumping off of benches or somersaulting blindly.

The shelf allowed me to abandon a helix concept that i wanted to try but found to be to "real estate costly".

The goal is to be running trains on July 18th.  Actually, i got the lower loop almost tied down, and the upper loop is close as well to be honest.  I should hit the deadline with no problems.  Nothing like an openhouse to inspire progress.

My hold up is those damn Atlas C55 curved switches.  It is OK though, while i have no desire to handlay one myself, or have one done for me and my workaround is to fill it with flex and then come back and drop the switch in.  I literally only need a handful, and i am confident they will show up in the next 6 weeks.

I have enough to keep my busy that one "little" shipping delay doesn't slow "building an empire" down.  I have been busying myself with shelfwork (lightweight), scenery (more trees!) and ballast (the bane of my existence) as well as layout tours for inspiration.  I have (recently) though begun to think "damn, i hope i never gotta rip this out". :)

The fun part is, my wife (rolling stock weathering and scenery) and daughter (a 6 year old CAN paint plywood) are both willingly assisting so the family time is increasing.  The boy of course, just wants to run trains.  But then again, what 4 year old doesn't. ;)

Been living in a tent since late last week - no electricity no toilets and no cell service  ::)

Only train stuff while camping in Cecil County was the occasional train I heard in the distance (could hear them better in the middle of the night) which I later realized was the old PRR along the Susquehanna.

Getting caught up on the electrons this morning ... 8)
