Dismal Swamp RR scratchbuild project

I'm starting this thread in the hopes that y'all will massage my sudden interest in building some Dismal Swamp RR equipment.

Starting off with the passenger car:

I'm thinking that the thing to do is etch the sides.

Why etch instead of just using scribed wood or styrene?

Is this a fictitious RR?

The only crap google spawned was about a narrow gauge thing:

If this is it you better start looking for some code 10 rail. ;)

Agree. Can't see any reason to etch cars like this at all. Wood/styrene should be ideal.

I've got some Code 25 you can try...

Actually, that is the railroad in question.

I do N scale, so it would be Nn42 (which is perfect, since Z scale track scales to 41" in N).  However, I'm not looking for someone to do this for me, I'm looking for motivation to keep this interest going long enough for me to actually complete something.

Looks more like a flanger than a passenger car.

No, it is in fact a passenger car, although I just realized that I screwed up my drawing.

By the way, I was considering brass for weight.  I've already done a couple of logging flats in brass and wood, and the brass version is slightly heavier.

I like this project.  I feel good about it.

Got an image that's to scale?  Maybe I'll build one too...

Unlike the flatcars, the passenger car would have plenty of room for additional weight in the form of metal slugs.

Not exactly.  All I've got image wise is a couple of scans out of two different books.  The biggest problem with my drawing is that I managed to somehow screw up the scale of the trucks relative to the car (actually, the trucks are correct, the car is incorrect).

Actually, it is good enough as a working drawing for me to build the thing.

If I can remember to get batteries for my camera, pics will be in tomorrows SNFF.
