Built another Nn3 critter. It is a stock Toma Model Works kit, but I added a few "American" details.

Well I did something that I never thought would happen.  After 30 years, I bought my first piece of HO equipment.  I don't know where this will lead, but I was sure nice to buy an undecorated kit without having to call the factory or endure lame excuses as to why they aren't available.

Jason

Whoa...what is going on here? :o

I went to Caboose Hobbies in Denver for the first time in many moons yesterday.  I picked up a decoder for the D&RGW Atlas RS-3 I got from Chuck a couple of months ago.  I also bought this:  http://www.mcmillanpublications.com/Cart/list.asp?ID=3070  This book is truely a gem and I'd suggest it for any Grande fan or anyone interested in contemporary railroading.  Mike's done an excellent job of bringing the human element of RRing into the story, both in photos and text.

My next project on the owrk bench will be painted some GHQ vehicles I have.

For those of you who followed the thread in the Crew Lounge about the blizzard we had this week out here.  It is currently sunny and 67 degrees.  Looking out the window there is no trace of the 15" of snow from the dump 4 days ago.

I was "de-modeling" this week... the hot water tank behind the layout fried itself requiring the "de-construction" of the layout in order to replace the tank....not a very satisfying expereince at all..............

Replace it with an on-demand system and reclaim the space for the layout.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Yeah, that's how I wound up with all these:  http://s178.photobucket.com/albums/w243/drgw55/HOn3%20Rolling%20Stock/  It's fun to build larger scale kits.

Picked up a couple books and some InterMountain HO scale 40' boxcar kits, 1 in CN and 2 undecorated for painting in CP colours for the club layout.

I just need to step back and take a fresh view.

I was fine with having to create 40-50 custom decals. And I was fine with having to scratch, bash or RP some 40-50 carstyles that aren't available.  But if the cars that a can use from manufacturers are going to be unavailable in undecorated or kits and the decorated ones glued together, I'll never be able to achieve my current goals.

So it's time for new goals.

Besides that, I have enough projects in the bin to last 4-5 years if I never bought anything new.

Okay, here's the evidence that I haven't been totally slacking... The first two are decoder installations I did for Bob Bufkin... finally...  I guess they're a suitable retirement present!

The first is the newer Atlas Classic version.  I was startled to learn that this only had 4 of the 6 axles geared.  The second is the older Atlas Kato version, which is all wheel drive.  I also was able to breathe life into this Atlas U25B for another guy.

For my own fleet, I finally got around to painting up some Atlas cars I had sitting around for some time.

And my first car featuring a backdated 1960's vintage Laurel Valley paint scheme.  You may recognize the family resemblance.

It's not much, but after a couple of false starts, I've got the roads for the bridge module printed, joined, spray-mounted to some thin styrene, and ready to start some serious assembly:
