Dave, that looks really good!  One thing that does bother me is the lack of support for the stairwell shaft (or whatever that is) on the smaller building. It is just hanging over the retaining wall. I would envision either the retaining wall to be extended to follow the contour of the shaft or at least some sort of cantilevered concrete platform supporting the shaft.

Here are couple of quick and dirty photoshopping attempts to show what I mean.

Peteski,

As I indicated a few pages ago, my intent is to do the latter, i.e., extend the foundation down for the stair tower.  I just haven't done it yet.  I do appreciate the awesome visualization, though!

with the weather stand down, today would be a great day to do just that . . . . unless you are glued to the GOES-R feed . . . .

Be sure to put a guardrail around it, or, better yet, put some scrapes and automobile damage on that foundation.

Things still need to be "dirted in" including the retaining walls.  I also need to work on the treatment around the parking lot side of the building.

Now that we see the elevator shaft base, I'd recommend a nice little fender bender scene - something in a teenage driver not using the brakes appropriately going down hill should do.   :o

Otherwise, 500  :ashat: points and 3  :tommann:'s for a good build.

+1, what he said. The color still doesn't grab me, but that's an irrelevant personal quirk.

Yep, color-wise it's a compromise...  But I figure it's more recognizable in its current color:

Dave,

I love the look of the new building. It is a nice change to the character of your layout. Please forgive my lack of knowledge of the region, but I was wondering about the feed mill/farm supply building (?) in the foreground. This now looks a bit out of place to my eye, but again I don't know if these kinds of industries were in such close proximity. Any thoughts about this?

Best wishes, Dave

There are small grain dealers like that scattered all across Pennsylvania.  Similar facilities could be found on PRR branch lines out of Lewistown.  The proximity between the large factory and the grain dealer is selective compression, since the new factory actually represents Huntingdon, several towns railroad west of Lewistown.

EDIT:  The area around Lancaster, PA comes to mind...  Several large industries with grain elevators and mills very close by along both the PRR main and the PRR Columbia Secondary.

Dave,

How did you make the signage for the new buildings?  They look really nice and not as if just printed off the nearest word processor and taped or glued on.

Dave,

I make 'em in PowerPoint and print them on matte photo paper.  I cut them out and white glue them on.  I'm going to redo the one on the left building as it looks sloppy.

It works better if you carefully paint the paper edge, which I neglected to do.

Looks good Dave!

What did you use for the roofing material?
