To get this back on track, I think Dave V might understand my decision to drive the PRR through the Rockies a little better now. It's my solution to the kind of dilemma he's facing. If I wasn't modeling the PRR, I would probably be modeling the D.,S.P,&P.

Pennsy in its own territory is what I find exciting...  Same for the Colorado narrow gauge.  It's awesome that you can combine the two and get something more satisfying than then sum of the parts, but for me, transplanting one or the other would take away from the charm.

The closest I think one gets to the "best of both worlds" in real life is the East Broad Top or the ET&WNC.

The Waynesburg and Washington was later owned by to PRR.

If you're pondering a Bachmann 4-6-0 in G, make sure you get the Anniversary edition.  You should pay somewhere around $125-$175 for it.  The older "Big Hauler" version they put in the train sets are dookey.  The Anniversary edition is better detailed, has a more durable drive, and the siderods and other exterior details are metal, not plastic.  Much better for outdoor applications.

From what I hear, Colorado is much better for such ventures, since it's arid and you don't have weeds overtaking your track work as quickly.  I bailed out of G when it started taking three days of hard labor to clear the track so I could run trains for about an hour.

Bought Kalmbach's book on garden railroading...  Looks like fun, but still reeling from sticker shock.  I'm also thinking anything I do try would be very small and very temporary, given my nomadic lifestyle.

So in the meantime, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and insulation have been finished and sheetrock began today.

That is awesome!  It looks like it has held up well, too.  I would buy that in a heartbeat if i lived close enough to pick it up.  Good find!

The EBT was on my bucket list, but unfortunately this notice appeared on their web site last year  :x  :(

It is with great remorse that the East Broad Top Railroad officially announces that we will not be operating steam powered excursions for the 2012 season

They've also canceled the 2013 season.

On a brighter note, the layout room looks like it's really starting to take shape.  :)
