I say keep with the Middle Division theme and don't sweat the scenes being out-of-order...it's merely a model railroad, and having scenes out of order isn't as much of a compromise. Plus, since this isn't the last layout you'll build, merely an addition to an existing layout, I'd try to be a bit more cohesive with the other parts of the layout. But with my lack of knowledge on the Middle Division, any further commentary from me would be coming directly out of my  :ashat:

Well said.

Cohesive is more important than having stuff in the correct order.

The basement is being framed out this week.  Final dimensions on the room are 10'9" by 14'10".

The "bedroom" has a 6x6 walk-in closet that will serve as my model railroad workshop.  If I end up retiring here, it's nothing to bust down a few walls and take over.

I've got a bad case of layout withdrawl. I plan to reassemble the JD as-is as soon as the room is finished and figure out the expansion later.  After all, finishing a 900 sq ft basement isn't cheap and I may not have all the funds I'd like to tackle re-tracking and expanding the layout right off.

Re-doing the mountain and paper factory scene can be done with materials on hand.

Dave, That is a really nice plan, thank you for sharing it. I have a question, what type / manufacture / frog number turnout would you use on the curve where the mainline branches off to the Enola yard?

Very cool!

As for turnout size, not sure...  DKS did this in Anyrail...  He might know.

EDIT:  Holy cow...  A picture of my layout is sharing the cover with the V&O.  Sudden wave of humility washing over me...   :o

No humility necessary Dave - you earned that cover with your diligence and dedication.

Now get some frackin drywall up in that basement so we can harrass you about not building stuff the way we do Ed and The S.

I'm pretty sure that I would just crap my pants, if that happened to me.  I'm still in awe that you mentioned me in your N Scale Magazine layout article (thank you!) and that Lee posted a picture of the Virginia Central in another issue of the same magazine.  Kudos for the GMR 2014 cover shot and article.  I hope I can live to see the Juniata Division in person some day.

+1!

All of the curved turnouts in the plan I drew are just the standard Atlas Code 55 curved turnouts. They only have one size.

David (DKS) Thank you for the information. It's been awhile since I've looked at what's available in the Atlas N scale code 55 line.  As Dave mentioned before, I too have been thinking about replacing my code 80 track with code 55. After reading your answer and having a look at what's available now in code 55, I think it's time to start creating a shopping list  :D

Dave, are you still thinking about upgrading the railroad to code 55?

I owe Ed a huge thanks for this...  Back in 2012 the call for the token N scale layout for GMR 2013 went out to the BANTrak group, and Ed forwarded it to me.  So Ed, thanks so much!

Yes.  That is if I could ever find it in stock.

Probably after the new year...  I have a particularly heavy teaching load this fall plus the fact that I'm trying to finish the basement.  Paint, flooring, and tile are all being done by yours truly to same some money.
