OMG Bridge Bird's-Eye!

They've finally got bird's-eye views of "my" bridge on local.live.com Bing Maps:

http://www.bing.com/maps/default.aspx?v=2&FORM=LMLTCP&cp=qvjzjv7p9ybq&style=b&lvl=1&tilt=-90&dir=0&alt=-1000&phx=0&phy=0&phscl=1&scene=34864696&encType=1

My modeling job has just gotten much easier AND much harder--and I couldn't be happier. :)

Amazing there is a train on it at the same time - note the weathering on the boxcar roof.

I say Thomas, an excellent observation.

That website is cool. I spent a lunch hour and most of the off the phone time one afternoon looking at Lima and Allen County Ohio. I'll hve to spend a vacation binging Chicago.

Was that double track at one time ?

According to the topo maps at TerraServer, the bridge was actually triple-tracked at one time. Which is how I'm building it on my module:

Seusscaboose,

I don't think the link you gave is the one you meant--at least, it's not obviously showing a bridge.

Once you're looking at the view you want, you need to hit the "Share" button (toward the upper right) on Bing Maps to get a link that points at the current view.

Otherwise you'll get (I think) the last location you explicitly entered, rather than the current view.

Yeah, Kankakee's pretty interesting from a railroad point of view.

I mean, if a bridge wide enough for three or four tracks isn't enough, how about one wide enough for EIGHT? :)

As I recall the IC was triple tracked from Chicago to Gilman (?), so a wide bridge (or viaduct) would have made sense. But what's that diesel on the model? Doesn't look very IC to me.  :)

That's a great looking module you have there!
