The Myrtle Avenue Elevated Railway in Brooklyn was built prior to 1900 and operated with its original cars until 1960. These were open platform, wooden cars that had removeable sides so they could operate as open cars in the Summer. Incredibly, they were equipped with link-and-pin couplers!
In August 1956, a three car train approaches the transfer station with the Jamaica Avenue El:
This photo of a departing Myrtle Avenue El train was taken from the Jamaica Avenue El platform in July 1958:
Note the abandoned crossover track on the el. These cars were photographed in August 1960, about a month before they were replaced with wooden subway cars built in 1904. The Myrtle Ave. El. could not support modern transit cars and was eventually torn down:
Next week, the last Myrtle Avenue El shot and the same cars used elsewhere as work equipment.
