I love color shots of steam...any more?

Note that it's weathering is more uniform than most models.

Note that it's weathering is more uniform than most models.

Look at the sunlight reflecting off the sand dome, the Belpaire firebox, and the cylinder. The engine was not long out of the shop when photographed. PRR, LIRR, and PRSL were shopping and repainting steam only months before the last fires were dropped.

As to the black smoke - bad firing. Or maybe bad coal.

I have read that UP engineers would regularly wear a white hat , and not just for photo shoots .
