Curious behavior

Just installed a Digitrax DN163K1C in a new Kato SD40-2 (mid) and notice when any throttle speed change is given the loco "surges" to a higher speed momentarily and then settles back down to the throttle setting desired.  Does anyone have a clue why this might be?  Happens even when stopped and moving throttle to setting 1 for slow creep forward....I have never experienced this before.  Using an NCE Power Cab BTW.

Curious,

Mike

Settings were set to cv2=8, cv5=90 & cv6=50.  With these settings the loco creeps just fine and the max speed prototypical.  Nonetheless, the darn thing surges whenever a throttle setting change is given....just for the briefest of moments it speeds and then settles back to the speed it should be going.  I can't figure it out.

Next step would be to reset as you suggest but I thought I would explore this problem a bit more since I thought I had this DCC programming "down."  I also thought this was a unique issue since the digitrax decoder was straight out of the box.  At least it looked new...wonder if it was a return and the previous user played with some exotic settings that might explain this issue.
