According to N Scale Supply and the Horizon Hobbies website, the DC only F45's and FP45's are due by the end of this month to early October, but the DCC and Sound versions are postponed to next year. More flapping about patent infringement? Or maybe they sounded more like an electric razor than an EMD 645.  ;) ;D ;D

From Horizon, "October" means in the stores in November, if the container ship doesn't hit a typhoon. Atlas has to deal with the same thing, but.... Kato air freights some of their stuff in! I've got a shipping box from Kato that had "Super Chief's" in it, with a JAL sticker on the side, all the way from #@&^%*&, Japan. (I ain't at the store, and I'll be darned if I try to remember which prefect Kato is in! My "brain" is overloaded with trivia already!)

It is a misprint Ed, I meant 3 bay and I have edited the entry. That's what I get for typing on Benedryl.

That's from Athearn Walkercolt, not Horizon. Several manufacturer's Air them over rather than use a container because they don't have enough product to get a container. For those that use air cargo, cost's have gone up almost  by an order of magnitude compared to container costs. That's the main reason why a couple of the little guys are looking seriously at production in the states again.

Given the impact of fuel costs on overseas air shipping and the seeming lack of enough containers in this world to ship everything that needs to be shipped, US production does seem to be making more sense. There was a story on NPR earlier this week about how local chicken manufacturer Perdue can't find shipping containers to send their unwanted-in-the-US chicken feet to the we-gotta-have-chicken feet consumers in China. It left me with the image of a warehouse full of frozen chicken feet somewhere on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Maybe manufacturers will be more flexible in meeting product issues if production moves stateside?

Strange, a year or more ago there was a surfeit of containers here in the USA. So many that the steamship lines were selling them for peanuts to be used as storage. It was cheaper to buy a new one in China than pay to ship the empty back. There are even a lot full of 'em in my neck of the woods for lease to the builders that aren't building anything right now.

Look like someone was short-sighted here.

But keep in mind, there is a world of difference between the 20' crap cans and a 40' reefer.

So you fill up a 40' refrigerator container with chicken feet.  Ship it by truck, train, etc to the west coast, load it on a ship and send it on it's way.  My question is - just how long will the refrigerator last before it runs out of fuel?  Are they refilled somewhere along the line.  Doubt if they can be refilled aboard ship.  I've travelled between the U.S. and Japan while in the Navy.  Even at a decent speed, it takes awhile to traverse the Pacific Ocean.

Don't laugh. Believe it or not, there is very little waste product in the poultry industry. Probably the meat packing industry also. I don;t kn ow how much, if any chicken feet get sent to China, but lots of refrigerated or frozen products do get sent oversea's and it would be impractical and cost prohibitive to fly it over or transload to frozen food lockers on ships.

Both the container ships and the railroad flatcar trains have provisions for "host power" for the refrigerated containers, they are not self contained like highway trailers or railroad mechanical reefers.

There's an old saying from the gents in the biz... "The only thing from a pig we don't use is the oink."

Or words to that effect...
