Still at Marieville, PQ, on the Montreral & Southern Counties on August 4, 1956.

M&SC No. 607 presents the classic interurban face awaiting the morning rush hour at Marieville.

Side view of interurban M&SC 607, oh so typical of the cars built from 1900 to 1920...

The replacement. CNR Fairbanks-Morse No. 1615, a combine and a coach, my train back to Montreal, not just St. Lambert. Within two months, that would be the only option.

Next week, a trolley tour of Montreal Tramways on a chartered car.

I didn't shoot this, so follow the link.  It's from the Hoboken Train Fest on 9/8/01.

Looking back it's kind of creepy.
Say a prayer for the fallen today.

While poking around looking for some of my B'more shots, I came across this, taken a few years back before NS disposed of their 15-1s on a surprise day off from MBK:

Certainly not for the feint of heart.  CPR Bridge Crew work to remove temporary scaffolding from
underneath a span at Bala, Ontario.

As mentioned a couple of weeks back, my wife and I toured the US for 3 weeks back in April as part of our honeymoon. After a week around the Bay and then cruising down Hwy 1, we found ourselves in San Simeon for the night. Next day, we said goodbye to the coast and headed inland - we had 2 days to get to Vegas. The rough plan of attack was to head across to Bakersfield and follow the old Espee to Mojave, head across to Barstow and catch some of the BNSF/UP to Daggett and maybe some of the UP on the way to Vegas.

After a nice morning heading up over the beautifully-green coast ranges we made it in Bakersfield around lunch time and had a quick stop at the BNSF yard. I'd wanted to check out the old SP yard again too, but it was sacrificed for more time at Tehachapi.

So we left town and followed the old Espee.... caught an UP manifest at Sandcut with some former SP 89' flats in garbage service.

Headed into Caliente - no trains there:

Got off 58 and headed for the marker - no trains there:

Headed down to Tehachapi and on to Monolith - no trains there:

So far, the days railfanning around Tehachapi was on par with my previous visits - no trains! I didn't want to give up yet though, so we decided to stay the night at Tehachapi and picked one of the Best Westerns near the old SP Depot....trackside. I was fearful the trains were going to keep Heidi awake that night and that would be the end of railfanning for us...but not to be. In typical fashion, as soon as we unloaded the car and jumped in the spa....a parade of trains cruised by. So ends Day 1 of the trains - more to come later.

Sheesh!  It's his honeymoon, and he's worried about the TRAINS keeping his wife up all night!

Another pair on a westbound pass at Tianzhu

A single QJ in the Yellow River valley north of Lanzhou

Another double header not far from the previous location
