Kato PRR NW2's same engine!!

If you're a Pennsy fan, you can only have one of the two Kato NW2's on your layout, depending on the date you model. The PRR's second purchased Diesel was NW2 no. 3909, bought in October 1941. It's first was 3908, an SW1, bought in 1938. In 1942, 3909 was renumbered to 5912, so both numbers never appeared on an NW2...

The lower 3900 series numbers were used on A6's, distillate and Diesel 0-4-0 boxcabs built by the PRR as early as 1928. Might just have to get a 3909 for my roster...

Kato has a bizarre habit of picking short-lived or outright incorrect numbers for their models.

I would consider the running of a GG1 on non-electrified track a more glaring issue than a road number and plenty of people are going to be fine doing that.

Looking at it though, the only other number choices would have been later phases (1945+).   So all things considered, they probably did the most protoypical thing they could i.e. they got it right.

That's pretty funny, conceivably you could have both numbers coupled up and they'd be the same unit - where's Rod Serling when ya need him?

Chances are we will never see some Boston and Maine models;they did purchase 14 of them;
but- they are an East coast RR (about as far East as the NW's went).
I am finishing up two NW2's in B&M (1202 & 1203) in black with decals I had printed up
by Modern Rails out of Portageville NY. When they are done (soon) They will be posted
on Modern Rail's web site.
