Loconet

Based on some of the loconet issues I've encountered lately, I have toyed with the idea of adding a couple of the new Digitrax LNRP.  Both the command station and the booster are Digitrax DSC200s.  The primary power supply is a Digitrax PS2012.

My current loconet configuration is as follows:

Everything seems to be working properly with the current configuration however, I do plan on adding an additional 8 DS64s to the right side of the diagram.

I was thinking about replacing two UP5s with two LNRPs as the following diagram indicates:

My questions are:  Other than the additional troubleshooting and shorting functionality, would I really gain anything by going to the LNRPs?  Have I effectively done the same thing via the command station/booster?

Please tell me what you think.

Thanks,
Dave

I think I would split this up, put all the DS64s off one booster Loconet, and all the UPs off the command station Loconet ..

Dave,
If you go with LNRP's, feed the boosters and the UR91 with the "protected loconet" Feed the UP5's and DS64's from the "standard loconet". That keeps a problem on the accessory decoders or UP5's from reaching the boosters and your radio receiver.
LNRP has the added advantage of adding power to railsync pins1 and 6  as well as loconet pins 3 and 4.
BTW, you can connect a DS64 and /or your Locobuffer to the side jack on a UP5. Neither need railsync (pins 1 and 6) to function. I opened my locobuffer to check. Pins 1 and 6 dead end at the jack.

Martin,

Thanks for the good news.  That takes care of my need for a splitter to access the loconet.

I hear what you're saying about the protected loconet.  With the probability of the future addition of block detection (probably 15 blocks) and lighting, is 2 LNRPs enough or would adding two LNPRs now also take care of my future needs?

Martin,

Do you mean like this?

BTW, the BANTRAK crimper is by the front door waiting for.  Everyone knows of your plan to stop by.  You might want to call the house just make sure someone's here but you can stop by any time.

Dave,
Almost but not quite. You have created a loop in the protected loconet. Not good. Lose one of the connections to break the loop and you've got it. I'd delete the cable with the longest physical run to save wire and I'm cheap.

Thanks for the heads up on the crimper. I'll call before stopping by. Want to have an extra one for my clinic at Louisville.
