Dave,
While you are spending money, that extra Dt400 could be sent in with the DCS100 and get up graded to radio. Would save on the postage.

That's an excellant idea.  In fact, I'm now planning to send both my DT400s in for upgrade to DT400Rs.

IMHO, the comments made about the Digitrax failure rate seems overexaggerated.  Digitrax has the market by sheer volume and therefore the failures are much more apparent to the public.  As far as I'm concerned, at least as far as base systems go, I'm reminded of the old copier commercial..."It's just as good as a Xerox".  In my train world, the others (and those who use them) seem to most times comment that it's just as good as a Digitrax.

I really can't complain about the longevity of my system.  I've had it for almost 4 years in which the system was run on average 3 hours a day, 7 days a week and everything worked great.  It wasn't until recently that I began a significant expassion, that I began to have problems and that's most likely because I'm pretty sure that I overloaded the systems. Things began to work fine once I understood the limitations of the systems and reconfigured things to remain within those parameters.

Let's face it, DCC is not like the old days when you could simply plug in, turn on and go.  Today's digital age requires much more technical prowess relative to the previous train era.  This seems to be the price we pay for the flexibility that the DCC age affords us.

Sorry for the rant, I'll get off my soapbox now but I would like to stress that this in my very humble opinion.

Again, I would really like to thank everyone for all the help.

Dave,
Do you have a part number/source for the power connectors you used?  I'm going to need several, and I know they can be procured cheaper that going to Radio Shack.

There really wasn't a part number associated with the power connectors.  Bainesville had them in one of the bulk drawers.  They were rather pricey at $2.99 each but at this point it was worth it to me.  They were the 2.1mm male plugs (per Martins suggestion).  They had two types, 1 with a long barrel and one with a short barrel.  I had shorting problems with the short plug but he longer ones worked great.  The cost was the same for both so it didn't cost me any more to get the longer ones.

I hope this helps.

Skip,
There's a couple of types of 2.1 mm female plugs on this Jameco page.

The ones I use look like PP049

How long will it be before they show us how to add DCC to a tree?
