Yeah a N scale bottle car is needed for those whose railroads serve the steel industry.  And a Schnabel car just for the occasional special run-through.  Of course on my little door it would only be able to sit idle on an interchange track, since I doubt it would negotiate any curves on the layout.

Small bottle cars are available from Peach Creek shops. I like the kit but do find it is a bit pricey.

Trix makes large ones. German prototype but very close to US. Just chop off the bumpers (whatever they're called the little stick out things on European rolling stock)

Alas, it appears to be missing the handrails up top, which were oversized but present. So, it might not fetch very much.  :'(

Thanks for the links.  I may have to pick up a couple of the smaller bottle cars, but the schnabel car is too big to run on my future layout, so it would be a luxury item if I got it at all.

If I wasn't as broke as those handrails, I'd ask you how much you want for it. It'd make a neat project.

Considering you got it from the junk bin, I can't imagine that you wouldn't make a profit, if you auction it. Good luck!

Gregg, No handrails were ever on the top of this guy, it's already way too high....

You might be confusing this with the old Atlas 33k propane tank car.

You're right, I'm wrong. I checked on George Irwin's A1G site and sho'nuff, these cars have no handrails. Don't recall ever seeing the Texaco and Wanda Petroeum cars, either.  You can probably buy a locomotive for what you can get for the car.
