I didn't know about the trip pin issue, I remove all of mine as soon as they come out of the box. In that regard, the Accumate wins again in my book because they're tool less removals, whereas I need to get out the cutters to remove the MTL pins.

But most of them are still way too long - so I still gotta replace them (like on all my 55T fishbellies) or re-deploy them to "cushion underframe" cars.  ;)

I just clip the truck mounted Accumate off the truck, and stick it on the frame of the 55 tonner with a dot of crazy glue...You can close up the gap, and get a body mounted coupler in the process.  I haven't had a single problem with the mounting either...  up hill, down hill, helpers, you name it.

It also only costs you a little time...

My experience with the Accumates is that no matter how well they start out, they just don't hold up well to a lot of couple and uncoupling.

Dunno how this became a coupler thread ...  :P

o - Kadee/MT couplers - work great but there's that slinky effect on grades ...

The 1015 and 1016 couplers only bounce, when they're being pushed.

I seem to be growing a nice collection of detrucked Accumates....

I'm not ready yet to body mount 200+ cars. ;)

I wonder when Atlas will get around to hi-nosing the C420 ...

     I have had only one recient vintage Accumate blow apart, that was at my op session last Sunday, but I did have the older ones go out alot, I had the trip pin fall out on an FM Trainmaster about 3 years ago new out of the box after trying to adjust the height. Then in trying to put the pin back in everything exploded, so that couypler was replaced wit an MT 1015. I have to agree with ED "Trip Pins, we don't gotta show you no Trip Pins !" I now have started the removal process of all pins on cars used at op sessions, also the conversion to Fox Valley from Plastic Atlas and MT Lo Pros is under way. The plastic Lo Pros will be recicled after ultrasonic cleaning under MT & Atlas cars that never came from the factory either with replacement Lo Pros MT,or never had them Atlas. These are on cars not specifically used in op sessions.   Nate Goodman   (Nato). Salt Lake, Utah.

Is the Tru Trak price competitive with the Kato stuff?

As far as the locos and rolling stock goes - ho hum. Nothing to excite.
Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

If the price is the same as previously announced, then yes it is absolutely competitive.  I had made a chart in another thread that showed the comparison but I couldn't fnd it.

So should I start the bashing of the ridiculus CGW Atlas flatcar here or is that more appropriate for it's own thread?

You might need both just so you can put the rapido ends together. ;)

John, I found the post that had the comparison I did.  I haven't looked to see if the Atlas prices changed.

Quote
It looks like the Atlas falls right in line with the Kato track per length.

9 3/4" = $0.21 per inch

7 5/16" = .26

6" = .30*

4 7/8" = .34

2 1/2" = .60

2" = .71*

Prices aside, the Atlas stuff looks helluva lot better than the Kato.

I really like the tie spacing on them.  Think I'll wait and see what else they do in the future.
