Is it just me or does this beg the question "OK you're releasing a TOFC flat yet you're putting a steel beam load on it and not containers or trailers?"

Nearly as odd as the pipe load they included in one of their Z scale boxcars. (I do wonder what they're smokin' there, sometimes...)

I wonder which flat car they are using with the 89' release, TOFC or COFC.  The TOFC has rub rails running down the middle of it, and the COFC has some sort of corner post raised plastic to set the containers on.  I have seen many Trailer Train 89' flats loaded with steel on Conrail over the years.  (A company named DuraBond in Export, PA receives all sorts of steel loads to coat with a rust inhibitor.  They interchange with Conrail in Trafford, PA on the Pittsburgh Line where loads frequently sit waiting for the short line operator to pick them up and take them to DuraBond.)  I never noticed what the deck of the flat cars looked like though.  I would assume Trailer Trian would remove everything on the deck to make it smooth for the load to sit on.  My personal favorite load was pipe that was over 100' long.  Each TT flatcar had a 50' idler coupled to it.  Very impressive.  Thanks.

I wasn't suggesting that either COFC or TOFC flats get used as flat cars occasionally. It was just the manufacturing decision to make a TOFC or COFC car, which seems to be a car many folks want, and not put either containers or trailers on it.

As if the pipe load in the boxcar was isn't enough they put an NYC "Early Bird" fast freight scheme on the car -- someone must really, really, need those pipes -- NOW !!!!!!! : : ::)d

And to top it all off, they release not ONE, but TWO, runner packs
of standard flat cars. ???  with NO loads.
Does anyone run unit trains of 50' flats ?
