By far, the single most over-rated piece of rolling stock produced.

I really hope Atlas doesn't copy their HO offering (which would basically copy the MT car).  Let's have some TTX, GTTX or even LTTX 85' and 89' cars with a couple of different auto-rack options.

For those who don't want to spend $$$ for these stand-in cars, for a couple of bucks in styrene, brass and detail parts, you can create something that could suffice (don't mind the pieces that have come off, it's pretty old):

I had hoped someone would have stepped up since I worked on this car but it look as if Ill have to get out my measurements again.

I like my N Scale Kits flats, especially when outfitted with the MLE hitches.  Easy to build, and massive enough to track well.

But it is hard to understand MT's business rationale...

The NSK flats are OK. They are a bit crude, especially the wheel stands. The real pain isn't the model but the MS decal set. Over 50 decals need to be applied to get all the lettering! Thats insane. Its a long flat stick. For christ sakes just break up the car sides into three sections and offer decals like that. Then add an overlay decal for the reporting marks and number.

Are these un-liked here?

I don't know about their TOFC stuff, but I have a bunch of (Alan Curtis) 25' logging cars, and I love em!

That's the EXACT reason I've shied away.

I don't mind decaling, but that's insanely excessive...

I've decaled several of the MT flats.  A little at a time, fellas.  Spread it out over a few nights, or you'll be screaming like Lee's subject title of this thread!!!

50 decals? That's about normal. I recall when I purchased an undecorated HO car and Herald King decals to decorate a boxcar for my desk at the AN - long before anyone offered one prepainted - there were 29 decals on each side of the car.

If your goal is creating something as opposed to buying something (after all, anyone can open their wallet) I don't see a problem here.  ;)

I know Pullman not-so-Standard's earlier 89' cars were 89' 1" cars in late 1963... but they didn't look anything like what's available in any scale today.

Thanks, I have no idea what they look like, just saw them in an N&W equipment listing.
