Hilarious!  ;D

I can hardly hear the "prime mover" but it sorta sounds like an EMD turbo whining in there somewhere.

Sounds like the prime mover sounds remain constant while only the turbo whines up and down with the throttle.

Ever listen to the sound of a Baldwin Shark go from idle to moving?  I'll have to look, but if I remember correctly off the top of my head you've only got a change of a few hundred RPM from idle to max speed, so you almost can't here a change in the prime mover.

It isn't relevant in this case, however; this appears to be an EMD reengined Dash 9.

No I haven't but you are correct that your point has no point in this case.

Having sat in a turbo equip locomotive for 36 hours last week, I can tell you there is a noticeable change track side, in the cab, and standing on the pilot of the prime mover as well as the turbo.

While it is true that the RPMs of a locomotive don't vary all that much (generally only a range of about 500 to 700RPM), I guarantee you that the difference between idle at 300 RPM and notch 8 at 900RPM is, quite literally, deafening.

A BLW 600 series diesel idles at 315 rpm, maxes out at 625 rpm.  Most Baldwins had throttles without notches.
