This car Naviajo was built for the first lightweight Super Chief train in 1937,a great referrence book on all of the Santa Fe lightweight Obs cars is "Santa Fe Streamlined Observation cars' by Jonathan J. Boyle JR. TLC Publishing 2004. This car ran on the Super Chief untill the train became a daily trainin 1947 and new Pullman Built Vista Series Observation cars were used through 1956. ACF (American Car and Foundry) built one later Vista series car, and on Chief Pre War PS car was renamed in Vista series.Later this car was occaisionaly used on the Chief and then in special or extra service. The car was donated to the Intermountain Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society in 1966, and they ran it on some fan trips out of Denver. The car now retired is at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden,Colorado and some interrior restoration work has been done, The interrior was reconfigured by SF from it's as built plan nine years later. There is a great photo on page 5 of two female models posed in the car. Santa Fe rebuilt the Pullman Standard lounges with blunt ends so they could run mid train but all the SF Budd build Coach Lounges for El Capitain and the Navajo escaped this fate. Con Cor Chose a good car to model, as it is just generic enough in looks to represent other paint schemes they offer, Florida East Coast, ACL Atlantic Coast Line for example. Latest word in a E Newsletter from Con Cor is first road names will be releasing in late January 08 followed by rest in early Feburary. Great news for me who has a Santa Fe,car an ACL, FEC and Undec. car on order. The Undec will become Seaboard if I can locate N decals. Nate Goodman (Nato). Salt Lake, Utah.
