I hadn't seen it taked about yet (but I seem to recall speculation about it), but MT has info on their new body style.

I've got 2 old 3 domes but don't know who made them.  There's no marking as to who did them.  Anyone know?

Roco for Atlas:

Rivarossi for Atlas:

I also have one from Bachmann (Mobilgas) but no photo.

Which ones are yours closest to? Ladders have been replaced on these.

Strikes me as odd - a 4th (maybe more) 3 dome tank car.  They were such common cars.  ::)  Atlas, Bachmann, Model Power and now MT.

The Bachmann can be worked into a decent model - close to a proto photo I found anyway.  See below.  Forgive the crummy photo quality.

19K single dome from the mid 50's

I'll second that.  But would MT redo all the CGW foobies?  Probably not.

Eric said this car has been in the works over FIVE years! MT isn't a big company like Atlas or Athearn that can churn stuff out at the drop of a hat. They're really a small company that has made more body styles than all the rest combined. Yes, I wish they could re-run more cars more often, but they don't have the facilities. I like the car. I won't be buying 100 of them to run in a train, but in the '30's, '40's and '50's, three dome(and tanked) tankcars moved specializied products, like acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, and toulene all at once, to be made into lacquer thinner or paints. Or kerosene, "white" gas(remember that stuff?), and benzene or dry cleaning fuild. Tanktrucks finally took over their usefulness.

Rob, they used very exspensive slide molds for this car, and you could be right that it was over 5 years from the first thought of making the car, but it was quite the process. And truth be told, they had to equal Atlas' efforts in tankcars of late, and if you look at the test shot, it's done very well indeed. Micro-Trains has a lot of pride as a company. They didn't want to do a half-way job.

Though not a car i'm interested in, its nice to see a car that was needed. MP, PMI, Roco, Riv, Bachmann and Life-like all made variants of this car. They all pretty much sucked. The life-like car wasn't too bad. The shell was tooled with smaller rivets then the rest, but the walkways and ladders sucked. This would be a good choice to upgrade tooling for Walthers.

Cool! It takes me back to my Lionel Days ,remember the old Silver Sunoco 3 domer. Yes squirrled away somewhere I have the Bachmann Mobile Gas car, the body color is redish brown. There there is the Black Life Like car with nifty "Pro Tex" markings thats currently parked at the refinery on my layout, ,changed the oversize upright brake wheel to an MT. I believe this car was also done for "Roma Wines".                 Nate Goodman (Nato). Salt Lake, Utah .
