Dumb question: What's wrong with a Zephyr for a small home layout?

nothing, as long as it remains a small home layout because it is limited to 2.5 amps and 10 active addresses.  it can be the foundation of a larger system, but if you intend to have a larger layout down the road, start with the larger system.

How long will it be before they show us how to add DCC to a tree?

Thanks for all the input, and sorry that I haven't been here for a while ...
I think, I'm going with the NCE. No club ... the closest modeltrainer in my neighborhood is Steve in NZ ....

Do Digitrax decoders run on it without problem?
