Hello everyone,
My name is Ron and I'm yet another refugee from the Atlas forum. I live near Harrisburg PA and model the Erie / EL in the Southern Tier with a splash of the Bath and Hammondsport shortline thrown in. The layout is still being wired up and I hope to get scenery under way this summer.
Nice to see so many familiar names over here, and looking forward to continued modeling inspiration!

Ron,
Welcome to the fold. Will we see you Saturday at the CRHS Rail B Q in Newport? The fun starts around 10 (and watching Sean unload the trailer by himself is ALWAYS fun!
If you can make it, bring a softball mitt and a big appetite, and of course, a few bucks for the Conrail Shoppe...

To introduce myself, I'm Rick Howland, no body important. I come from a family of Santa Fe and D&RGW Rails. However, according to them, "You don't want anything to do with the railroads" they said with disdain and regretfully, I was influenced by their negativity. Wishing today, I had not wasted my life with other trivial pursuits having preferred instead to work for the railroads.
I model in N scale, attempting to capture the memories I have of the Santa Fe, Southern Pacific and Union Pacific during the steam to diesel transition period and forward.
I don't believe in limiting one self to a set day and time. Variety being the spice of life and my model railroad certainly shows that. Prototype as much as is possible but not held to it. You will find me freelancing just for the fun of it.
I'm a spin off from the Atlas train forum and a supporter of TrainBoard. Looking for another place to land and share in some good old fashioned "Railroad Model" fun. Said, in that order because I'm not a true model railroader but, prefer to reflect the lingo and jargon of the rails during the era I'm modeling.
That said, thanks for opening the door here and allowing me to participate.
Rick Howland Aka BarstowRick
62 years young.
Former Barstowite who now resides in: Big Bear Lake, CA. Where Barstowites go to cool down during the heat of the summer. It gets downright cold in Big Bear Country.
Proud owner of the Howland and Pacific Railroad. Where at anytime on any day, train time at the station may surprise you.
Have fun!
RickH.
Signature: As far as "Turnouts" the rails still call them "Switches" as do I. Does you get it? I asked with a grin!

Thanks for the invite Lee! However, I'll be at the ELHS meeting in Meadville PA Saturday. Hope our paths cross sometime soon though.

Bob, you talking to me?
Yeah, I remember all to well the trains through Barstow, Ca. during the late 50's and into the early 60's. Later I would reside and raise a family in Victorville, Ca. Catching what time I could trackside watching trains during the mid 70's through the late 80's. A interesting time for train watching ending with some almost mega mergers, as in SPSF.
Then it was off to Ohio, and the train influence with mega mergers in full swing. You can see here:
the influence Ohio had on me.
Never mind the influence a vacation or two spent in Colorado had on this modeler.
Fun times.
It is what it is!

I was lucky enough to be stationed in CA in the late sixties before Amtrak and had a chance to ride AF&SF, UP passenger trains. Loved to ride the San Diegan to LA and back while it still had F units on the head end.

Those were good times as the F units arrived in Barstow and continued to LAUPT, pulling the El Cap., Californian, Grand Canyon, Chief, Super Chief and others. Ever hear of the Antelope? The Diegan, sported the older E units as did the Chipewa Chief, a commuter run, that ran from San Bernardino into Los Angeles. Followed by the PA's. The San Diegans was known for being the last chance, last run... for any aging Santa Fe passenger locomotive.
Glad you had a chance to ride the San Diegans. How lucky can you get.
Just a introduction to my layout. A work in progress.

Do I dare throw another one at you? I know overload.

They should be short but informative and thanks for not holding the western influence against me.
Have fun!
Love these faces. I know, if I keep using them I will be known as the smiley faces... guy.

Uh....
You guys do realize that when you moved 'migrating from the Atlas forum' out of the N scale thread, you locked out everybody with a low post count that just migrated from the Atlas forum?

Yes, that was explicitly stated... in the other thread.
Thankfully, it gives us a little bit more time to talk about all of you behind your backs.

Crew lounge: Error message on moved thread is "The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you."
And if I bring up the topic long enough, and post enough, I suspect the problem solves itself....but it you're wandering in here and see the N scale thread and click on it looking for Atlas guys it's an instant 'GO AWAY'.
