Hi there,

I've been lurking for some time and enjoying the posts and sharing, but figured it was time to come on stage and contribute.

I've been modelling in n scale for about five years and have managed to start a few layouts and finish a few dioramas.  My first diorama was based on the Rio Grande and also coincided with my first crack at scenery.

I live in eastern Ontario and started to get tired of modelling the Rio Grande, especially since the CN was my favorite railroad, so I started a layout based on the CN lines near Jasper in the Rocky Mountains.



There were a bunch of things with that layout that did not work for me, so I tore it down two years ago and just started a new CN layout based on the mainline through northern Ontario.  The mainline and most of the yard is down and I have just finished painting the backdrop and hope to keep you amused with my modest progress.



Anyway, I hope to post here and there and keep up with the crowd.

Like ok eh; we'll break out the Molson's and back bacon eh... you don't mind sleepin with da husky's do ya eh ? They got a nice igloo with like bear skins so it's cozy eh.... why not come in summer when the ice is almost melted eh.... You can watch the Polar Express on my black and white 12"; it's like really modern eh.....but you gotta tell us if you need 48 or just a 2-4 a day eh, cause we gotta fire up the ski-doo to go to the tradin post down at the fort eh, gotta stock up if ya comin hoser......

I thought I should post in the introduction thread...I'm from Waco, TX.  Working on small layout, mainly a learning device, I suppose.  It's been slow going as my funds are limited.  I mainly like the N&W but don't consider myself a strict prototype modeler, though I find I'm getting there!

My hobbies tend to go through phases, so I'll be really into MR for a while and then do nothing with it for a couple of months.  Means it takes me a long time to get anything accomplished!

Greetings,
My name is Allen Heimsoth and I’m a true newbie to forums as this is my first.  I was invited here by Gary Hinshaw after contacting him about his Fading technique.
A friend and I have been watching the listings on Evilbay from swmodels and Griff’s stuff.  Kinda got the spark burning again for weathering.  And yes, I have a copy of Tom’s book.  Just picked up a container of sea salt the other night from Wally World as well!
My friend seen Gary’s postings on Trainboard and he followed it here to Railwire then told me about it.  I contacted Gary about saving his postings to a PDF [Gary’s technique seemed to be the missing part of the puzzle that I’d been searching for].  Then I decided to sign on with his invitation.
 
I’ve been a model RR’er for years, got my first N scale stuff in 79, 2 years before I graduated high school.  Overheard the folks say on night “It’s OK, don’t worry it’s just another passing fad he’s going through” ………..Yeah, well that was 32 years ago!   ;)

My interests in model trains are Operations, Painting & Weathering [I hate shiny] and scenery but not too keen on electrical [Still learning]. 
By trade, I’m a custom woodworker/cabinetmaker with my own shop.  [Sometimes this drastically cuts into my train time when business is good]. 

3 years ago I finally started my layout that I’ve been planning and envisioning for years.  It starts in Little Rock, AR and runs south to Alexandria, LA.  More commonly referred to as “The Little Rock Line”  Circa:  Summer 1983.  In my world, The Rock has staved off bankruptcy for at least a few more years.
Favorite roads:  Rock Island, Northwestern, Miss Katy, MoPac and the ICG.

The bench work is up, the mainline is down and trains are rolling with DCC.  Now I’m working on the industries and cutting in the industrial spurs so we can start the ops!  But lately I have taken a siding to try and get a good hold on this weathering stuff.   
As Gary mentioned, once I get some shots of the faded and weathered cars up to go along with the Fading PDF, I will try to get some shots of the layout up for viewing as well.

In regards to modeling, I guess I could say I’m a Jack of Some trades, Master of none.  Don’t know if I can add much to the group with all the talent that is already here so I think I will just set back and enjoy the ride for the time being.

In addition to your enjoyment of weathering, you'll find some comraderie with other fans of the Rock, ICG, MoPac and CNW.  There's a guy in the Little Rock area (MichaelT) that drifts in and out, too.

Welcome.  Now, if you'll please put on this blindfold, there is the little matter of our initiation rite... 8)

Allen,
A hearty welcome!  Having grown up in Baton Rouge, I'm keenly interested in the geography of the area you are modeling.  As you might guess, I'm into KCS and IC/ICG (with an occasional old Mid-SOuth thrown in for good measure.  Your PDF of Gary's Fading Fast thread is already in my Google Docs folder, and I look forward to more of your work.

And when it comes to saw dust creation, I do that nearly as much ad track laying.
