Hello

A sorta new member here , been a member for awhile now , but just as a ocassional lurker really .
looking to become a more active memeber here . I currently do have a layout , that is soon to be dismanteled , and a complete redesign and reloacation into a spare bedroom is on slate for later half of August . This layout will be a learning layout towards OPs , current layout ismfor just running really . The new layout is a David K Smith design  , that i will be making minor changes to suit my needs and wants . It came from the archives of the White River & Northern site whenit was active a few years ago . The layout is the Lehigh & Hudson River , Ogdensburg Branch . I will be doing this from the image of the design , incorporated into my room size , which is about a foot larger in both directions , and redraw it into Scarm or Xtrackcad

i would like thank David for putting the layouts up on his former web site , and if he is still around and should see this , i would like to say ...... Thank You David

I will become more active with questions and progress reports as the process continues

Thanks

Steve

Hi.

I've mostly been a collector and modeler of N Scale locomotives/rolling stock/structures  for 40 years or so, and have never had an operational layout.  I did have an NTrak module for awhile.  About a year ago I moved from Atlanta, where I had a basement and the beginnings of a layout, to coastal North Carolina, where I have neither.  I'm a member of the Grand Strand Model Railroaders, which gives me the opportunity to do some running and hopefully soon some structure/module work.

I mostly model (or collect) transition period eastern roads, with a preference for the Pennsy, though not to the point of SPF-dom.  I'm definitely not a rivet counter, but I do prefer to model reasonable representations of the real thing.  I can live with cars that ride a little high or a loco with under-scale drivers, but I won't run a string of 40 hoppers with the same road number.  Not even two, actually . . .

I see a lot of folks here from the old Atlas Forum, and hope to benefit from your knowledge and experience, as well as contribute a bit of my own in any way I can.

Happy to be on board.

Hi Bruce. Welcome.

Hmm... let me introduce
myself. I am Ms. Dee
Rayle. I am the glue
that holds this forum
together...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

I lived in Washington DC and Northern Virginia 33 years, with one sabbatical year in Alaska, before retiring to Bozeman, Montana, in the summer of 2005.

I enjoy N Scale model railroading primarily, though I do have two beautiful HO trains, the KCS Southern Bell and an Alaska Railroad passenger train. Northern Virginia NTRAK is my home NTRAK club. I was a member more than 10 years, before retiring and moving out here to Bozeman.

I am the founder of Montana NTRAK and its president emeritus. We have a small but very active and talented membership from across the area. We formed Oct. 7, 2007, built four club corners, and put on our first layout in January 2008.

The Museum of the Rockies, here in Bozeman, in addition to being the Western U.S. repository of dinosaur fossils, houses the complete archive of Ron V. Nixon railroad photographs. We have a link to that archive on the Montana NTRAK website (mtntrak.org).

Should you visit Montana, I would be happy to have you join Montana NTRAK at one of our set-ups.

Do keep in mind if planning a trip out west that Montana and the northern U.S. Rockies have five seasons: Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fire Season. We're in a huge fire season right now.

Good day all!

I just recently joined and am currently in the research part of the planning stage of building my first layout. The room I will be using is my entire attic and is 15'x25' with only a chimney and staircase on one end. I grew up with HO scale trains but I will be modeling N scale because you can fit alot more in the same space. I joined the forum mostly to gain some insight and advice as needed and later on down the road I hope to return the same to new and current members. I live in Ohio and winters here are prime modeling months! Summers are for vegetable gardening and lounging in the pool!

Welcome to the Railwire shultja75.  I'm sure you'll find this forum a good place for a lively discussion (model-related and otherwise).  :)

Howdy!

I'm into N scale. My son and I do mostly passenger trains from all eras. While we primarily model Santa Fe, however we've strayed a bit recently. I have started doing my own sound decoder installations. I put a TCS Wow Sound decoder in our GS4. I'm in the middle of gutting an MRC equipped Big Boy which is how I found this forum. I've been lurking for a while...  :D

I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Welcome oh honky one!  :D  I see you jumped right in with a DCC question in the N and Z forum.  If you have been lurking then you probably know that lots of helpful answers are on the way.   8)

A hearty welcome Honk Honk (that handle may get you a few interesting comments if you stick around - mostly of the "Thats What She Said" variety).

I'll get the next coffee pot started as soon as i can find the coffee . . .

Sound decoder installations always require video - which is one of the TRW Operating Best Practices: Pics or Video or it DIDN'T HAPPEN!

Get a Layout Engineering Thread started so we can see where you test you new creations, and don't forget to add content to the Weekend Update!

Hey Tom, it was good to have a laugh with you and Andrew and Otto last night while we worked on the layout. Maybe when I see you this afternoon we can use a couple of the photos we took to start something in the Layout Engineering Reports.

Glad to see you took the time to introduce yourself here. Welcome to The Railwire.
