Lenny, did the Montreal N-Trak fold? It seems the Long Island N-Trak is close too folding too.

Is this going on elsewhere in the N-Trak world? I hope not.

I attended the public show at the NSC convention yesterday. I must say I was surprised at how small it was. I was expecting something like Chantilly. At first we thought we would blow through the place by lunch.

I wasn't disapointed though, go to see some friends again(Chuck, Cory and Craig) and found some really great deals from the vendors. I scored two Kato NS Dash 9s for $35 a piece, a load of DI containers for $3 - $4 a pair and some hard to find coil cars I have been looking for. Some free goodies too and got to see a lot of the new things coming our way. Of note for me, the Atlas C420 and the IM SD45-2.

I was surprised that there wasn't a larger Ntrak layout.

Ended up spending the whole day there and glad I went.

Nope, this year was a "small" one; next year in Louisville is the BIG one.

The Ntrak layout was supposed to be twice as large as the one they ended up with; two large clubs dropped out at the last minute.  (Yes, I know who, but I don't know why, so I won't say).

Yes the club has dissolved, the current premises are to vacated by August 31st.

In 2004 our club TRAINtrak [Three Rivers Associates In Ntrak] lostour home also.  We assumed it was the end but we have proved to be more resilient than we thought.  Now three years later we are have 13 members  down from the 28 that we had previously but we have lost very few of the people who actually do most of the work.  Now we are increasing our shows and coming up with new ideas.  Losing our home was not the death blow that we all thought.  Keep the club going as it is far easier than to start over again.

I think having a permanent home is what kills N trak style operations.   We have a bunch of modules at the Delmarva club, but they never go anywhere.  To me, the object of the game is to have a variety of people supporting the effort by bringing their modules from their homes to an exhibit where the concept and the hobby can be actively promoted.  At our club, it  became a parking place for people who liked to build modules, then forget about them.  So there they sit collecting dust.

I've been trying to contact TRAINtrak for about two years now (I'm north of the city and looking for a club), but never get any responses. Ever. Who do I contact for info??

Now that summer is starting to wind down, I'm back to the layout. My progress this week was all with t-square and pencil, drawing up plans for my company houses. Tonight I'll probably run a track-cleaning "work train" a while, too.  ;D
