Kato made a Daylight 4-8-4 ,well almost did. In conjunction with Con Cor who they made the GN S2      4-8-4 locomotive for they were going to do a Daylight, I have Kato Catalogs from Japan for that time period. New coming releases were shown as color illustrations in the front of the catalog. The Union Pacific Passenger cars and E-8/9 diesels were shown also a Daylight. Maybe a year later the Kato Concor relationship ended and Key Imports offered a S**t Pot of brass Daylight locos. Now of course Con Cor usuing their made in China version of the GN loco drive train had a daylight made. Driver size for both this and the Kato not made loco are under sized, and the Con Cor loco features the GN pilot wheels with side frames which you have to cut off to make it look proto with the wheels showing. "FEF" stands for "Four Eight Four', yes there were three classes or groups manufactured. 2&3 were the new looking locos 844 is an FEF 3 FEF 1 locos were what American Flyer modeled when they switched to scale proportioned locomotives. Credible source indicates the  SP Coast Daylight, with appropriate motive power.

Allright, but will it be available painted DGLE and with PRR markings?

Since everyone is doing big steam , why does Kato not buck the trend and do a USRA heavy pacific?

Please do not try to use the 'Only Erie had the originals and protoype fidelity is important to Kato' argument.  More than one road had copies of the USRA heavy pacific (even Erie had a class of copies) and Kato sold a USRA heavy mikado with SP markings.  The SP never had any USRA power and no SP mikado of which I have ever seen a photograph burned coal.

But as wm3798 observed, it will be in a Western road, to which I will add that it will be ultra-modern.

Anyhow, they do have a deal on RSC-2 kits for about sixty-five bananas apiece and free US Mail shipping.  It is in the PARTS section.  What makes it worth the price is that you receive TWO shells.  Good for bashing projects, reckon!

There are one or two people around who seem to be in the know on this stuff and they coyly indicated that whatever it is is NOT modern and would make SP fans happy...

I think a PRR passenger train with GG-1 would be an incredible thing to see - frankly it would be interesting to see a train of Amfleet cars with an AEM-7.

...because they are hopefully busy with SD70ACe and some other modern stuff - hopefully !
it is enough if two manufacturer like LifeLike and Athearn are producing steam engines - we do not need more steam - or are you all building museums and memorials on your layouts ?

Those would be nice, but the next Kato Passenger stuff will most likely be the SP Coast Daylight...

A museum, yeah. Need some S2's, FPA4/FPB4's and M636's  ;D

The way things usually work in N, as soon as a mfg does a locomotive, no one will duplicate (with some exceptions). Bring on the modern diesels.

Also, a CN C44-9W with the proper windsheild would be nice.

You could do a credible eastern RR museum with a few Conrail cabooses and a rusting GG-1

To tell you the truth, frightening for my wallet yes, and odd that "no brainer" trains from back east have not made  production, i.e. the Broadway LTD., the 20th Century, etc.  I am an SP modeler, but am surprised that the Eastern roads are not being acknowledged, even out here on the left coast I know many that would plunk down the $$ for eastern trains if Kato would do them.

Oh BTW, can you say articulated?  Kato can and will........
