Converting Kato RSC2 to MT Couplers

Has anyone changed a Kato RSC2 to MicroTrains couplers?
I started converting the RSC2 to MTs.   Once the shell is off and the railing removed from the mechanism, the pin slid out easily from the Kato knuckle.  I tried MT 1015 in the opening, and the bottom portion of the box is a good fit, but there is NO WAY to get the coupler through the frame, nor any way to get the box bottom and spring on the coupler shank and push everything in place.   I tried the #1023 and the Z #905, but neither seem to ride at the correct height.  Is there one of the other styles (#2004, etc) that will fit without completely remodeling the frame and opening?

Try the #1015 coupler in the #2004 box.  If it fits and the coupler is too low, then go with the standard #2004.

I believe I used the 2004 and it not only fit well but is at the correct coupler height. I went back to the Micro-trains coupler conversion chart and 2004 is what it recommends so I'm sure that's what I used. Please let us know how it works out, thanks.

And... the 2004 is the coupler that MTL recommends for conversion of the RSC-2

I have a mind like a steel trap...a VERY rusty, old steel trap.

Guys,
I went to two different hobby shops and neither had Micro Trains #2004s.  One did have the 2001 set for converting Kato Japanese prototype locomotives.
The 2001 has a pair of short shanked and pair of long shanked underslung couplers; which are probably the same as 2004.   The short shanks worked perfectly.  Thanks to all!

2001 and 2004 are the same coupler, for this purpose at least.  I don't remember what the difference is between the two at this point, as it's been decades since they were introduced.
