3D Printing Directory

Hi guys!

I do not know if this is relevant to you, but I want to share with you a directory I recently came through. Maybe it will be a useful resource for other forum users looking for free printable STL models.

I normally design 3D models by myself, usually referring to Thingiverse repository. Then, I found Top3DShop’s STL finder, which seems like Google but for printable STL files.

I guess since this is intended as a repository for the site. I'll start with something I threw together one night. After talking to an acquaintance and going off some pictures I made an NJT replacement style catenary, these are usually found around the NW corner of NJ and are only really used to replace damaged former DLW Poles. One of these days I'll throw in the double track version.

Single pole so it fits in naturally in tighter areas (gig)where the double pole ones would be hard to fit. Comes in a variant that prints as one piece and a version that prints in parts. Suggest using the parted out version, made sure parts have location (Holes on pole correspond to insulators, arm "clips" into corresponding C shape on pole) so assembly is easy and there isn't any real guesswork.

On my attempts I usually print it upside down, support along the rim of the hopper with some support in the hopper itself, I keep supports off the the grab irons and stirrups , and I print at about a 25 degree angle. I just can't get a balance where the details render properly or the car doesn't banana itself over 2-3 days.

Its probably something to do with my post processing/curing/or resin but for now I don't feel like dealing with it much further at the moment.

I've printed them both on my Ender 3 Pro. Not contest winners by any means, but I think 60 of em will get the point across.

Design is also simple enough that my Slicer seems to be catching all the detail quite well. Going to make a handful and see how it shakes out.

** 7H Later: With about 5m of post processing per car and 1.5h per car print these are really nice. Now to make a wire bending jig for them.
