I'm still hoping for a period appropriate tender, especially if they can put sound in it.

But what I would really like to see is a more modern 4-6-0 such as the B&O B-18, which did start with some flat-looking low tenders, but ended up with some more modern looking tenders, although obviously not the USRA versions.

And, then there are the B&O class D-30 0-6-0 switchers that had USRA tenders, not the slope backs that Bachmann puts on theirs.

DCC sound?  Looking at the size of the tenders shown in the photos of 1:1 locos, I think that would be a pretty tall order for Bachmann (or any model company for that matter).
. . . 42 . . .

With the photo of the "coal load" versions in replies #5 and #9, there seems to be room under the coal "load".  It doesn't look much worse than Bachmann's "short USRA" tender for actual internal space if the "load" is just a hollow plastic shell.

Granted, the earlier low tenders like in reply #14 are probably too low to squeeze in a speaker.

But, these probably are not going to be museum quality reproductions that are faithful to some prototype, anyway.
