I had all the research done before I left. Just couldn't get the powers that be to bite. Might need to make a call and have them dig out my old files...  8)

Hope you didn't store it on a Zip Disk! :click:

I think one of the biggest issues with these things is that there are so many variations.

Baldwin was, essentially, a custom locomotive builder that was quickly iterating through changes in their diesels.

I bet a reason Atlas did the VO-1000 was that its car body changes between large owners were easy enough to accomplish.

But if, for example, there were three big name owners of AS-16s and they all had different hoods? Well, that's gonna be a challenge.

The only real variations that I know of are the thick cast frame or the thinner built up frame and dynamic or non-dynamic brakes. Oh, and outside or hood mounted hand rails.

...and that didn't stop Bowser or Stewart from doing dozens in HO with the 'wrong' frame or w/o dynamic brakes. I would rather have them than not have them in N.

Two different hood heights. NKP had the taller one.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

There was also the placement of the number boards and sand fill. Such a cool looking locomotive...

I have had a Reading AS-16 sitting on my work bench for months now.  It is the high hood version of which Reading had 4 of them.  I can't seem to find a picture of what the top of the long hood looked like.  It has completely stalled this project.  There is a real high hood loco in New Jersey (not Reading prototype but as close as I could get today) and I have a friend of a friend that has agreed to take some pictures but hasn't come through yet.

There is a special place in heaven for the owners and team at SMS.

This craziness is the Front (long hood) end of AS16 NKP 322 in 1954.

The diagonal number boards were a recent addition - earlier photos show it without them, but with both the headlight and Gyralite.
The rear (short) hood didn't have the Gyralite.

Note that there IS a prototype for clear illuminated number-boards with no numbers in them!

You just brought up some ptsd from my early adventures in IT work. I think Iomega products is what killed what ever interest I had in IT!

I know James made the Baldwin center cabs as built, I wish we could get some post rebuilt EJ&E units. I’m curious what his plans are going forward to distribute his products

I need a pair of DRS-6-6-1500's, the shapeways models were too off, and I so wish that I would have ordered the Transfer shell

Now these shells fit nicely on the Atlas Alco Century series frames.
