Traction tires are pretty much standard on European models. If you've ever seen the amount of rolling resistance on a cut of N scale European rolling stock you'd understand. Also a lot of people model mountain routes so I wouldn't be surprised if they are expected to be able to tackle steep grades.

Rotation is motorized, just have a look at the manual on the website https://www.fleischmann.de/static/frontend/Casisoft/Fleischmann/de_DE/doc/AN/2/DE/7370001920.pdf.

Yep!  On the 1zu160 forum I heard it was not - thanks for correcting....

Looks like it has built-in keep-alive. That is good because it features traction tires. Why on earth would this need traction tires?

Pete, I think it was even capable of off-center blowing as well. I seem to remember former Conrail crew talking about taking mounds between adjacent tracks.

Those (1:1 and N scale) both are cool pieces of equipment.  As for traction tires, maybe because only one truck is powered and the other one had those high-friction back-of-wheel pickup wipers which will make the dummy truck drag along.

Interesting that it'll turn around like that. There is another piece of snow equipment in Switzerland that also can reverse direction, but does so with a hydraulic ram, as can be seen here: https://www.railpictures.net/photo/727795/
