You know, every once in a while I think about it... but then I realize that I have too much integrity, don't go to church, and would honestly be driven crazy by the people I'd have to deal with.

I'm also free to wave my arms around all I want.  But when I hit you on the head, it's a problem.

When the CSX board is "free" to earn all it can for its investors by collapsing the economy of a city like Cumberland, or NS is "free" to unsafely run a train through East Palestine and burns down the town because it's cheaper to clean up than to run a safe railroad, is that a form of assault?

I'm all about a generally libertarian approach to gummint.  But at some point, there has to be some guardrails.

. . . and then (due to looser regulations) most standalone brand food product commercials in TV ended with "we're Beatrice".  Then they probably got swallowed be even larger fish. Mondelez? Someone once explained it well to me: the benefits of globalization are a mile wide, but the pain a mile deep.

People don't realize the way that things like the constant drive for shareholder value benefit them because it's in a myriad of individually small ways. But they DO notice when that same drive causes pain because it's typically quite acute (like a railroad blowing your town up).
