3D printing observation platform railings … insanity

Well, I didn’t include the observation platform railings on CR 10, figured I would use the MTL part and remove the faux floor. That was tedious yet possible with a pair of flush nippers and flush cut blunt toe nail clippers, and the result looks great but is very delicate. Hopefully it will stiffen when cemented in place.

For NH Flying Fish, I decided to print the railings as part of the body, primarily because it would be problematic to adapt the MTL part to fit the short porch. Oh, just as tedious removing the remnants of the build supports, and it’s delicate as well. I’m going to hit the area with a UV light pen in hopes that it gives it a little more stability. It looks great though.

I've had little luck with fragile parts like that on non-static models such as cars .. they end up being too brittle  to hold up to day-to-day handling -- unless there is a resin similar to the plastic used by MT for these parts ..

MTL actually uses ABS and not acetyl for the platform/gate. This should be fine since the model won’t be handled in that area.

I've had good luck trimming supports with these saw blades. They are so thin and yet sturdy! They sell you 5 at a time, but the first one is still going well after several years of use.

Similarly, I just picked up a set of these fold up saw blades that are 0.1mm thick at the blade- they fit in your Exacto blade handle after folding:

You're going to sell me a copy of these OCS cars, right?  :D
