Briggs Dofasco Trucks

A very good friend sent me a conversion set made by Briggs for the Atlas Tri-Mount so you can convert them into Canadian Dofasco trucks. The set is complete but he instructions do not have images. So does anyone know of a sight, or page which shows assembling the Briggs conversion set?

Thanks!

Bruce

I misread your original post

I thought there'd be pictures with the instructions but apparently I was wrong.

I hope I'm doing this link correctly. A mostly assembled picture here.

I was afraid of what the image shows. The gear case does not have any means to hold them together. They must have been broken in the mail.

I believe that design (unlike other similar truck designs) relies on adhesive to attach the metal pickups/bearings to the gearcase, and also to fasten the sideframes to the metal pickups/bearings.  So if you ever want to clean the axle bearing cups you will have to break the glue bonds.  IMO, not an optimal design, but it is what it is.

What I saw in the image was there were tabs, which held the gear case together. I have redone Atlas trucks, esp with Kato RS-11s and RS-3s to remove the traction tire wheel sets.

Briggs uses the same or there about design, with tabs tying the gear case halves together. When the post office delivered the Briggs set the tabs which tied the gear case halves together were broken, and I had 4 separate gear case halves instead of 2 gear cases.

I either need new gear cases, or I will have to try to replicate the tabs to have a complete gear case, not halves. But they will have to wait as the arthritis in my hands is acting up due to the weather.

So does anyone have Briggs gear cases for the Dofasco trucks they would like to sell me?

This may seem like an odd reply on this topic, but here goes.

Some of you know I am a violinist.  Violins are glued together with the intent that they can be taken apart without damaging the instrument.  Many instruments that are over a 100 years old have been intact for that time, and others have been taken apart to perform repairs and successfully re-glued

The glue ? Hyde Glue.   Yep, send that old horse to the glue factory.

It works on wood. Would it work on other surfaces ? No idea, but, this is The Railwire, so why not throw the idea out there for consideration ...
