Actually, I'm thinking of using some British Rail 1980's equipment I bought this summer and some paper structures to do something in this style- the kicker is you really just need to size your base to a single piece of track.

It's a big thing in Japan.  This was in one of those mega LHS (5 stories!) in Osaka when I was there back in September.  Note the far right most one.  It's a bar with trains running through it!  :)

I agree! There's a certain whimsy about Micro-TTrak that feels like anime to me.

It's not really "Micro-TTRAK." It's generally called Mini Modules or Mini Dioramas (as on the linked Kato site).

Though a few Japanese modellers make risers that let them be used with TTrak.
